"Acceptance" by Kyrre Larsen

i'm not sure if i reviewed your film yet, but i just wanted to stop by and say good job. pretty much what Zak said, actually. highest ranking from me, too. your film really resonated with me; i don't know how else to say it, but you got it. you managed to really nail down the essence of what the character was experiencing.

and the film-making was just great. this is the kind of film i wish i could make.

This is crazy!

I'm so surprised and pleased with all the praise and constructive criticism we've gotten here! I love you guys!

Interesting, you had some nice shots. I liked how it was cut. But just trying to be constructive, I know how a lot of people on here get really defensive and try to get people banned because they can't take a little criticism, but I never really got that he was in any way stressed, or sad, or trying to avoid those feelings. He seemed like he was just out and about like any other twenty something. That's just me though.

it hits home with me because when i was 19, my father was dying of pancreatic cancer and I "dealt with it" by acting like it wasn't even happening. I avoided those feeling by behaving this way and I just kept going out, hanging with friends, staying out late, going anywhere and doing anything that would keep my away from home.

second note, i've never seen anyone here try to get a member banned for a critical review. what prompted you to say something like that?

I think a lot of people feel the same way you do, and are expecting different behavior from the protagonist. But I really didn't set out to make a film about a guy being sad about his father passing. I set out to make a film about a guy who is in complete denial of his father passing, and then finally accepts the situation. The grieving part comes after the film is finished, so to speak.

Thats tragic Zak - yeah just to pipe in too - when i was an adolescent and my parents seperated I too haha went into nightlife overdrive (albeit at a younger age than most) and was in self denial about it till it finally hit home!

I think Kyrre's story captures that faithfully, Chad grief works in mysterious ways.

Awesome movie. I really can´t think of another short i saw around here, where the acting was so convincing.

My gf and I sat down to watch the top 10 last night, in order. What a delight your film was! Very impressive. Technically excellent, fabulous lighting, great use of backlighting. Locations look real, solid camerawork, good story. My one complaint would be that you had to throw in a flashback explaining his father's death, so that we would understand his behaviour and sudden need to rush back. I felt like that was a weakness in the script, that it didn't know how to wrap things up, and needed to resort to flashbacks to explain everything.

But anyhow. You definitely deserve to be in the top ten. Solid film. Congratulations!

Hey man, just wanted to say I thought your film was wonderful. Well made.. thoughtful... concise... unpretentious. I didn't watch all of the films, just the finalists... but I think I liked yours the best. Well done and good luck!

B Plot/Continuity
B- Character Development/Acting
C+ Music/Singing
B+ Directing/Editing
C Cinematography/Special Effects
Overall B-

Most of the shorts I watched have kept and stuck to a particular mood. Would like to have seen a shift in mood/Emotion or a more dramatic segment. I know it's hard having 6min Though. Keep up the good work. Gratz to a TOP ten

The intent behind that flashback moment was not only to clearly explain that his father passed away, but also to indicate that the protagonist blocked out pretty much everything his sister tried to tell him. He is in denial of everything, untill he actually forgot his fathers funeral. He then starts thinking about what his sister said, and his responsibilty towards his family becomes apparent to him. He realises he needs to accept what has happened.

I don't know how clear that came across, and I do see your point.

Thank you! I was actually kinda afraid this would turn out too pretensious, so that means a lot!

Btw, I just saw the trailer for A Work of Art, and would very much like to see the whole film. Will it be available online eventually?

Thanks again! :)

i just had a look at this (working my way down the top 10 list). Marvelous in every way! Congrats.
Thanks a lot for the kind words!

HiOctane! Letter school grades hehe - my goodness your brave! You might want to focus more on comments than actually grading folks work lol. Sure we rate the films as we see them (out of 10) but i think in the threads folks are looking more for feedback than school report cards ya know ?

We loved it. It was great. The only thing is, I am still looking for a film that makes me cry and really feel the loss. I mean this guy didn't even share a tear. I WANNA FEEL IT DAMMIT!!! LOL...
This was my view 1 of 10 I still have 9 more to go. Good Luck!!!
by the way, something is going to have to be really good to beat this one!

Awesome awesome awesome...favourite soundtrack so far...great to see a European entry...loved the sound - especially the crunchy snow - and aside from looking great, the story just worked. A simple story but made exciting by the treatment. Fast-paced, edgy and modern. Great job!

I don't think I explained what I meant very well, I too have known several people going through that process. Everyone I've known kinda has this blank shell over their eyes, but just behind their eyes is the electric **** storm of emotions they're hiding from. Don't really sweat it, with the silly crap I'm going to be submitting to contests, yal are gonna be asking yourselves why I thought I should talk about the depths of your work when I'm making movies about stuffed animals eating pets and then getting flushed down toilets.

I really appreciated the real and visceral feel of this one. Really felt like life was just happening and no one knew there was a camera in the room most of the time. I thought the handheld available light added to all of that along with the performances. Really liked the running shots.

Again, thank you so much for all your feedback guys! It's really not that important how we do in the finals. After all, the positive reactions to the film have by far surpassed my expectations!

I'm really proud to be a part of this community!
