GH2 about to finish shooting my feature :)

just wanted to let you know i have 2-3 productions days left
and i'm done shooting a whole f@#$ing feature with this little GH2!
i'm using almost just available light and getting great results with 20mm + 50mm FD's.
i got exactly what i need, no need for re-shooting, some low light shots can be easily post fixed..
some shots can be easily post-stabilized.
i like shooting only handheld (with the cheapest shoulder mount),
organic and flat, so GH2+FD's+ultra-con filter are a perfect team..
A clear winner over almost all canon footage i ever saw.
i rarely got codec breaking, and a little cinegrain can hide most of the color banding.

of course it's all very limited, like all dslrs, but for me it was the perfect tool at the right time.
so anyway- DON'T UNDER-ESTIMATE THE POWER OF GH2 :)

*BTW-
does anybody else gets a weird color change after shooting over 5 minutes??
it's not appearing on the recorded footage, just on the EVF/LCD..
i guess my GH2 is defective- but if the footage is un-harmed.. WHO CARES !!!

Hahah this gret news. Thanks for sharing.

I cant wait to get the GH2 myself and join this exclusive creative club!

What were you using to power you're GH2 during this feature production?

Congratulations! I must confess, I am really struggling here - initially I was going to do my project on an AF100, then my financing fell through, and I started looking at the GH2. Then I got some of the financing back, but I'm not going back to the AF100, I'm thinking either FS100, or save the money and go for GH2. Posts like yours make me lean more toward the GH2. I will be looking real hard at whatever you shot - so please upload as soon as possible!!!!!

Congrats! A whole feature!! Wow. I just finished a short for the first time using the GH2. How was your battery solution?
I just got the Tekkeon battery to go with the GH2 so don't have to rely on teeny batteries for long shoots anymore..

I was hoping to use the Tekkeon battery as a solution but im not sure how I would mount it. Any ideas? You have any pictures of your rig?

i don't know how i pulled it through but i only used my two original batteries :)
had one battery charged again and almost didn't need it..
and this was on a 12 hours shoot day at my flat (can't remember how long was the camera ON).. around 10 scenes.
don't know how's that possible but it's true. i maybe tend to turn it off at any given moment.
and i'm a very "instant-shooter", so that helps a bit.

What I do is I have my GH1 set to sleep automatically after 1 minute, and that keeps the battery life very very high. You just half-press the shutter release to wake it up.

it depends on your project needs.
my ONLY goal was- NO money -> and still needing decent results for festival screenings.
and considering i hate the Canon look, GH2 just came out so i took my chance.
and i personally dig the "guerrilla" way. just the DSLR on a shoulder mount. nothing else.

i hope to post some footage ASAP.. crazy days right now.

That probably works with a feature but how would I cope with long takes in an interview setting? 2 batteries that last 1 1/2 hours each isnt really long enough I think. I;m kinda depressed about this battery thing...its either we buy third party with no battery meter or a large tekkeo nbattery that makes the camera unwieldly.
Thanks for the info CColton and roei z.

Have you really shot an interview that was longer than 3 hours continuously?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but in case of an interview wouldn't it be best
To buy the power supplier? In most cases you'll manage to get a power
Cord to wherever you need.. Unless you mostly interview at distant outdoors.

I've done a lot of interviews outdoors, where power was definitely not available, but never for hours straight...

I actually have an upcoming job that is to be a series of interviews for farmers. Here in Jamaica the farmlands are very rural with limited electricity availability.
Also our light comes and goes regularly without notice so you cant count on it at all. Thats why doing interviews outside with battery power safe gurads this as there is no lights and no power chords. If it really became a problem we'd have to rent a generator but then that introduces its own problems with sound and transport etc.

Im looking to buy into the OEM batteries and just buy several. Hopefulyl it'll suffice. *thumps up*

Hope so! That's pretty much the only option I can think of. More batteries! Shoot with the EVF not the LCD; uses less battery.

Ahhh good to know. Makes sense since its smaller than the screen. EVF it is then. Thanks

Here you go. GH2 is lodged inside a Cubed Cage by CPM Film Tools. Tekkeon battery (on the right) is mounted on the side with the 'snap on' kit and plugged into the GH2 via the DCC8 DC coupler (set at 8.4V).

While I have your attention just a quick rant about CPM's cage: What a shoddy piece of work! Two of the 15mm holes had 'chips' inside them so I couldn't get the rods to go in fully. Had to file them down first then force the rods in. Never expected such shoddy workmanship from 'Made in USA'. Well, after an hour of pain, sweat and tears, I'm not dismantling this cage for fear of going through that again!
