A7s sample footage

Also Mathew states that the USA version has record limit of 29 minutes and 50 seconds. That's lame! I hope that can be fixed in firmware. Just not necessary.

This stinks. I thought we were done with this old limitation. As someone somewhat new to DSLR's and Mirrorless cameras, what happens when it hits 29min and 50 secs. Does it just stop recording? Can you just hit record again right away? Do you have to power down? Is it a file size thing or a heat thing or what?

I'm pretty sure it blows up. :Drogar-BlackEye(DBG

You just stop and start recording again. Another way to make yourself feel better about the limitation. If you have a corruption or power loss, better to lose 29 minutes rather than an hour of a lecture or a ceremony. Not sure what else requires rolling over 29 minutes. Maybe timelapses.

"I put some GH4 96fps shots side by side with the A7s and It's really hard to pick a winner."

Not after iso 800 it wont be ;) I had the GH4 and that was the sore spot for me. Noise. Stinking noise and macroblocking.

Ha! Very true....

Stinking noise and macroblocking.

My sentiments too! How can a 100mbit codec do so badly in the shadows? GH4 looks much nicer recorded externally... except that - oh yeah - you can only record 24p externally because it doesn't obey the same HDMI specs that all the recorders do!

Anyway, that's another topic. Looking forward to seeing how the Ninja Blade and the A7S marry together.

If the A7s triggers record start and stop via HDMI thats a big point for the A7s. I'll let you know.

I really think the A7s is going to be a better B Camera to the Canon C100 and C300 due to DR and similar ISO sensitivity. Thats what I'm hoping for at least. I will know in a couple of days.

That Arizona clip reminds me a lot of the daylight stuff I've seen from the C100, no blown out DSLR sky. I have a feeling the A7s will even outclass the C100.

The A7S UK site http://www.sony.co.uk/electronics/interchangeable-lens-cameras/ilce-7s/specifications seems to have removed most of the references to non 50Hz frame rates. I guess we're not one of the "switchable PAL" countries...

Boooo!

The code for the switchable one, according to the article, is "AP2"... which I'm guessing is "Asia Pacific"... so I wonder if the Australian one is switchable, but the European one isn't...

The Sony Australia site still has it listed as a 24/25/30p camera http://www.sony.com.au/product/ilce-7s. How dumb is it to make the Euro model 25p only. UK/Euro shooters can always get a PAL/NTSC camera out of Hong Kong if Sony don't change the firmware, that alone should be incentive for them to do it

Interested in seeing the results from recording externally with a non 4k recorder(ninja blade).. On the 1DC when the camera is set to 4k and you record via the hdmi you get a much higher quality 1080p image than in camera(similar to the O7Q 4ktoHD option).

Curious to see if the A7s performs similarly!

I was noticing in this one https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LxeLUsvidfQ (shoreline, bridge etc in slog) that there are a few very fast pans and rolling shutter doesn't seem to be an issue.

I've been messing around with mine today with a 35mm lens strapped on. Rolling shutter so far appears as good or better than my BMCC. If it holds up I'll be a happy camper. 4k will be a different story in September. Not expecting miracles there.
