A7s sample footage

Sadly I fear the worst.

The FS700 has the exact same issue... It didn't matter how much I turned down the sharpening or changed the picture profile, the only way to avoid the false aliasing on high contrast edges is to either expose the shot so that nothing clips (obviously not possible in most real-world situations)... or record to the Odyssey 7Q and let it debayer the image for you, avoiding Sony's algorithms... (not going to be an option for a camera as it only has HDMI output)

Too early to say, i've seen stuff that looks okay - it is there, it is a factor of how the image is scaled and the math that goes into that (i.e. it should be avoidable). I would bet that the 4K output doesn't have it.

I think it's also emphasised by PP and Slog would yield the best results.

The FS100 has some insanely bad highlight and clipping handling, the stock 700 is better but the O7Q 4K RAW is perfect in that regard. All cameras suffer to a greater or lesser degree. This is pretty insane in such a small package

cheers

....kinda like buying a new Ferrari and seeing how fast it can go for the first time...and deciding to do that on a gravel road.

Some important information that Erik Naso has being posting in his blog and in various threads:
* when connected to an atomos ninja blade, clicking record in the camera will start recording in the blade
* magnification for focusing works while recording video, just click C1
* you may need to upgrade your SD cards, his Sandisk U1 class 10 45 MB/s won't record XAVC-S

Thanks a lot Erik!

I think the people at Panasonic are better at getting information out there and answering questions about their new cameras than Sony. Panasonic had so many reps doing interviews and live chats etc. outside of just NAB and other tradeshows and I felt like I knew what I was getting, what cards were best, and exactly how the GH4 operated even before I bought it. Now, I have 2 A7s cameras on pre-order and I find out only yesterday that it isn't a world cam and doesn't record longer than 30 minutes even in the US model which is craziness. I'm still interested of course but I wish Sony would follow Panasonic's lead in helping users understand this new camera better prior to purchase. Just my opinion.

Wonder if it can produce that nice and rich images like the BMPCC. With or without recorder.
I want a camera I can sell my FS100 and BMPCC for. An all in one solution.
Will download the sample footage and hope to get a conclusion.

(Edit: PTRush ' dropbox is overload. No more downloading for a while.)

This could explain why there are so many crappy videos up until now. Most of them probably don't have a high rated card in hand.

Lots of pictures and first impressions on my blog. I'm updating constantly with new information as I figure stuff out. So far it's a very cool camera and I cant believe how small it is. Check out how it compares to the GH4. Amazing size for a full frame camera.

Thanks for the updates. I hadn't handled the A7 before buying and was amazed at how compact it really it, smaller than the GH4 and FF. The grip makes it a little easier to handle if you're carrying it around and you get two batteries inside.

Well Sandisk is pretty stingy with their ratings. Their 45MBps cards may read at 45MBps but the write speeds are fairly slow. Though one would think class10 10MBps would be plenty write speed for 50Mbps (6MBps)... odd any class 10 card doesnt work.
