A7s sample footage

the Arizona video is 720p with a strange crop. The youtube version has a 1080p option but I'm not sure that it's not just upconverted to 1080p. Probably the wrong timeline settings.

Wow, if thats the case. I just can't believe this camera has not found its way into capable hands. It seems as though every video is just falling short of what its supposed to be.

It seems all the capable hands are waiting on good tests before they buy. Stuck in the catch 22.

The A7s also isn't available in a lot of countries.

It's seemed soft at first glance for me too. Nice to hear that was upscaled not just how it is.

Hopefully we will have some solid examples today. I personally really need to see how it handles concert lights. 99% of what I do is in that environment.

Guess what? Ashley enabled both 1080p and download on Arizona Falls:

Watching the download, I see some macroblocking that bugs me in places. It is soft in certain shots, which I'm assuming were shot cropped.

The download is certainly sharper and better looking.

118mb .mp4 for a 2 minute file is going to be ripe with second generation re-encoding artifacts.

Just watched the 1080p at vimeo...if you exclude the shot at around 00:53 which looks to be out of focus...everything is MUCH better now...
Come on guys...is that a game or what?

Worth mentioning that he did a light grade to the footage (Arizona vid) as well, so you need to go to his site to see the original LOG screencaps. It's like any other camera. Accounting for subjective tastes.....mileage may vary and the camera is only a small part of what goes into making solid footage. I'm glad he took the time to do this and as I said earlier, it was overhead sun and probably pretty washed out that day (104 degrees so that says something about operability of the camera in heat, too).

Looks a lot like BMCC 4K log though we can pretty much assume the footage will break faster :) https://vimeo.com/99126896

Ashley's piece is very representative of the paid work that I get. His piece at Newsshooter is glowing. I feel like this is probably going to work out for me.

That's quite a large part of what I'm doing too. At least that's when I mostly need a second (and third) camera. Many times I'm in venues with rather poor lighting so the light sensitivity of the A7S would be handy.
Right now I have an EA50 as b-cam and NEX-3N as c-cam to my FS700.
Could either sell the EA50 and 3N and scramble to get the difference for an A7S or go with a A6000 + a couple of lenses. Or keep the EA50, but looking for something small with decent quality. Decisions decisions ;)

Matt Allard at Newsshooter.com has dug a little deeper into the whole world cam issue. He has found out that there are three different Sony A7s models, one ntsc locked, one pal locked, and only one that is switchable.

Also all models seem to have the 29:59 recording time limit regardless of region.

More details here: http://www.newsshooter.com/2014/06/25/the-sony-a7s-a-world-camera/

I would imagine "AP2" stands for "Asia Pacific" region meaning PAL countries like Hong Kong and Australia get a PAL and NTSC capable camera. All the specs provided by Sony Australia state that the camera does all frame rates so fingers crossed.

Here is a dropbox link to various a7S files including 24p AVCHD, 720 XAVCs, and 96fps footage.
Enjoy!

Here's the direct quote form " https://vimeo.com/98137975 " Vimeo link:

here you can find some of the original files; some of them in 60p, others in 23.97p and the slow motion is in 120p and you must to slow it donw in post;
all of them handhel and with a no stabilizated lens, very fast, very ruff; but we want to try the worse scenarios:

Record limits.....always disappointing but not unexpected in this case. I don't plan on shooting single camera lectures or 31 minute takes but it's always nice to know you don't have to stress over the limit. Oh well...

I really think the A7s is going to be a better B Camera to the Canon C100 and C300 due to DR and similar ISO sensitivity. Thats what I'm hoping for at least. I will know in a couple of days.
