"A Verse Before Dying" - AF-100 Western Short

Extremely exciting footage, guys, big congrats!!!

And while it looks fabulous on my 27" iMac as is, it will be super interesting to see it with less compression - in particular, my attention has been drawn to the pebbles on the ground between seconds 19-23... when the camera sweeps over them in movement, I want to see what happens to the image in detail (yes, I am going to pixel peep :)).

Heli and waving grain shots are sick. Bokeh on the badge shot looks very very nice.

Thanks for putting this out- very encouraging!

I have to say that I was a bit nervous about how the camera would handle the waving grass from the heli. But looking at the raw footage in full res, it looks absolutely spectacular, without a hint of blocking or breakdown. I think it the camera can handle this, it can handle just about anything you'd want to throw at it.

Everything you see here, and everything you'll see in the final cut, will either be from the in-camera native codec or 16mm film. No NanoFlash will be used in the cut. We did shoot with the Nano on one scene, but only so we could compare the output to the in-camera codec. I'll be posting those side-by-side shots in the near future.

Thats great to hear. Thank you.

I trusted the native codec enough to handle all we threw at it.

Believe me when i say i used EVERY IRE of exposure. I pushed the image elements up to 109% and down to -5. I was controlling the exposure to the point of having Marcel Rodriguez, my Gaffer ultra-ordinare`, walk the lights closer or further away to adjust exposure by 1/10th of a stop.

You guys wanna know the best part? the Really good looking footage isnt in the trailer..... hehehehehehhe

NICE, love how your pulled all stops, literally, to get every bit out of the camera!
I knew you guys were going to tease us! I was hoping to see some of that beautiful interior work! Tease I tell ya! Tease!

But, I am satisfied and waiting patiently to watch a western story unfold.

The interiors were even more carefully crafted than the already complicated out door setups.

I will say this. I did one shot lit with three candles, and one 150w inkie, pushed through, 1/2 straw gel, 216 diffusion, and 6 1 stop and 2 stop nets. i basically brought the exposure down to the barest minimum i could, to really see how low i could go. Infact, while lighting it, Barry walks up to me, looks at the Wave form and i can see him almost say some thign about how low the waveform was sitting... Then he told the crew about how i lit certain scenes from cold calls with 1 tiny light and how nervous he was. in the end it looked good. :)
