GH2 a guess for GH2 ?

9 was my favorite, and I think it is more interesting even than the shootout what people like and don't like.
Plus one gets totally different results if the answers are not announced ahead of time, so that should always be the standard.
On my monitor, No. 9 resolves the very fine detail on the shoulders of the model--impressive. Of course, the focus points could be slightly off, as they are in every camera test ever made.

All of them look awful!
I have to say that my very first impression of the set was that they all had "problems." I mean, I'm sure he knows way more than I do, but the exposure, in cam settings and lighting all seem to have issues. There shouldn't be such a wide variation in exposure. But the video isn't graded, and these are just JPEGS.

The best camera test so far, once the identity of cameras was not divulged we saw how difficult it was for "expertsts" to identify even the cameras they own. Well done PB.

Soem of the others look quite nice and resolve all the detail in her hair. Most of it is gone with the GH2 and it's overall much too contrasty and not at all natural looking. But i think, based on what i've seen from this camera, that this is an operator issue and not the camera. 2, 4 and 8 look the best imo, color aside.

The GH2 looks like crap there.. wow. Wonder what settings he used.
Really? I thought it looked great in comparison. Before they mentioned which camrera was which i though #2 would have been the GH-2 (meaning i thought it would have been the weakest looking outof the bunch). But I was shocked that it was #9 using Nostalgic mode. I expected a more yellowish tone. But #9, other than being a little contrast(ier) than the other examples looked great to my eyes.

I prefer an image that has detail in it. My love of crushed blacks and super contrast died shortly after the dvx days and i learned to like a palette that had a nice contrast but detail retained.

I'm curious what you mean by natural looking? I ask because the ones you pointed to all look different from one another. Do you mean flatter? As far as the detail, because of the hack. all the detail in the shadowa of her hair will pop right out if you use something like 5Dll to RGB conversion software etc.

EDIT: Ok I see your latest post.

unfortunately at this point, taking a screenshot of the image and grading it doesn't do it justice, but i would be leaning something more towards what i've done here on bottom:

Now if i could get something closer to that..

it's mostly where the image clips. The way it clips to black is ugly, kinda like a bad clip to white but the inverse. There needs to be a gradual progression to black, not a stark line.
Need to learn more about this 5D to RGB thing. I read it for the first time in one of kholi's postto

I actually preferred #9 the most, but would've never guessed that it was the GH2. It's hard to tell with the glass covering her face, but it looks like the af100 (#3) turned out well too.

I prefer contrasty images that pop a little bit, though, and that is highly subjective. Luckily, I have the control to make the image look much flatter than #9 in camera if I wanted.

Ah yes. I see. I too would have liked an image like that straight out of the camera. But the fact that you can bring it back up in post makes me feel a lot better about the overall image. I blame the codec. I say this because when you look at the HDMI out on this camera you can see how the image appears less contrast(y).

The darkest values in smooth -2 (& nostalgic) are well above 0 black point, so the dr is recorded. With quantum, all luma values are given priority.

Time for a blog post on the basic workflow for GH2 Hack > 5DtoRGB > Coloring?

It's funny, before I even saw the list of candidate cameras (much less the answers), I took one look at the first picture and thought, "I bet that's a Canon..." The way the skin tone is a bit too red is something I see fairly often when shooting stills on my Canon DSLRs; I often wind up desaturating the reds somewhat using the controls in Aperture.

this was my only right guess ;)
too easy...
