7D or T2i?

You have to remember that the 7D being weather resistant, you'll have to have a weather resistant lens for it to actually matter.

Okay then. so. Right now I''m looking at:

7D + 50mm f1.8 lens + 8 gig card
Zoom H4n
any other suggestions you have?

You might consider the older Zoom H4. From ebay might be cheper then a new H4N and you will save some cash if you need to spare. H4 will suit you well (XLR and headphone monitor).

Sorry for this. but is the T2i weather/dust resistant? This is VERY important as, here in Nova Scotia, the weather is pretty unpredictable haha

Hey David... where are you located in Nova Scotia? I know how hard it is to actually see, touch and decide about products you're interested in but are not available locally. I'm in the Halifax area and have a 7D, Zoom H4n, Z-Finder, a RedRock DSLR stabilizer and a couple other things if you're interested in physically holding and checking them out. I also have the el'cheapo Canon 50mm 1.8 which I think is an amazing lens compared to paying for the 1.4. The only problem will probably be getting a focus puller to work with it's tiny focus ring... but a focus puller is not in my kit/budget right now.

Let me know.

For what it's worth... from the little I've read about the T2i's video... I would have probably bought that instead and put the extra money into some more glass. But I guess that depends on what you plan on shooting. Most of my stuff is indoors in controlled settings.

here's your fix.

Sounds like weather resistance is vital...nuff said. 7D.

I do a lot of on the field/documentary work, so 7D's more rugged and weathered body is more suitable for my kind of work. For those in a controlled, indoor/studio setup - T2I is awesome.

I'm in the heart of Halifax. Also, What is the main difference between the H4n and the H4?

The 50/1.8 is not weather resistant so be careful if you get that lens and plan on shooting in the rain. Like hish said, both camera and lens need to be weather resistant for it to work at all.

the 5D mark II is out of my range. Then it would be purely bread for me over the next few months :P

But, the 7D will let me buy what I want, and then still, well, live haha.
Dude, I was just answering to an inaccurate hint or typo pointing an untrue pseudo-advantage apparently related to the 7D. As matter of fact, already stood corrected by the original poster:

http://www.dvxuser.com/V6/showpost.php?p=1906804&postcount=13

The FOV in both cameras (7D and T2i) is the same. Only 5D Mark II brings the full frame charm.

I know what you mean. I'm just saying, from the video that was linked of a side by side comparison, the 7D looked slightly less flat. 1000$ less flat? probably not.

AGH this is so hard :(

Could the T2I stand up to light rain? Like, would I have to be super careful with it?

Judging by those videos the 7d looked better in every category and truly shined in low light.

Now the 7d cost at least $700+ dollars more than the T2i, it has better camera features and judging by these test also performs better in video. Now this is the thing, for $1600 you can set up the T2i to shoot amazing with better lenses and the use of light.

Also many people are still earning the camera so just give it time. If I could afford the 7D I would buy it, but the T2i for price range and comparable video to it's big brother is a good option. I can't have that Filet mignon, but these fried chicken crispers taste pretty damn good :cheesy:

What do you guys mean by the T2i not being very weather resistant? Are you guys saying that the sun or a drop of water will brick the camera or are you gays talking about lots of snow and rain? Not sure about that. I don't know about my current video camera, which is an HV30, but how is that considered compared to the T2i in weather resistance? Just wondering, because I'm thinking about upgrading to the T2i from my HV30.

David

One thing I've read repeatedly about the Zoom H4 was that you need to tweak the speed of the audio file in your non-linear software in order to ensure proper sync. That problem seemed to vanish with the Zoom H4n.

Also... I'm in Lower Sackville... I've sent you a PM if you want to hook up sometime.

The 7D will survive in light rain for quite a long time. The T2i won't. Sure you can get a few drops on it but I wouldn't leave it out in the rain.

haha.

But I'm thinking of the 7D because it has slightly better video, more control, better lowlight, and I know I'll get something I can use out of school. Where the T2i I'll be afraid that if I sneeze, it will break...

Oh ok, perfect. Thanks shaocaholica. Usually here in Cali it's pretty sunny most of the time and when I go traveling I usually use something to cover up the camera if weather becomes a problem. I'm not too worried about the weather resistance.

You need more testing to conclude anything this test seems to be able to tell. Certain flaws or disadvantages can mean nothing at times.

Just as an example in my personal testimony: I'm always preferring the GH1 rather than the 5D Mark II as much as I need wide shots. However, the full frame size would apparently be better than the 4/3 format, right? ;-)

Which is the reason I said THESE test. Lets relax people the T2i is not better than the 7D it is like it's wing man , Jordans' Scottie Or the teams 6th man star player off the bench. Now lets go shoot and stop worrying about these small details. Truth be told the T2i is looking very nice and for the price I could buy two of them compared to the 7d :)

peace
