5D MKIII specs

Is the speculation that the 24-70L II is going to be the kit lens? Really wish it had IS. So confused as to why they didn't include that. I use the Tamron 17-50 VC now w/my 60D and the VC comes in very handy for handheld. Hate to give that up.

File format raw, just reported on spec list at canonrumors.

Mentioned in conjunction with AVI, H.264 and Mpeg-2, not in terms of stills.

I'm wondering how thats possible, how can they record ~20-30 MB per frame at 24 frames a second

edit:
unless its a burst for a limited period of time

That's why I think this is a hoax or, at the least, an error.

File Formats – AVI, RAW, H.264, MOV, MPEG-4

Doesn't make much sense to have so many formats.

My guess:
JPG, RAW - Image format
AVI H.264 - Video codec
MOV MPG4 - Video codec

If the pics are to be believed, there *is* a headphone jack, so perhaps more video orientated?

ummm... it's not listed in the specs: Connectivity – USB 2, HDMI, Mic Input, Wireless (optional). ummm..why isn't it LISTED?!!! OMG, if they left that off, this is a no go. I thought we were sure that it had a head phone jack? Why not just omit the frick'in viewfinder as well, then we can not see as well as not hear what the hell we're shooting.

This isn't a really detailed spec list with regards to video, kind of like teaser info. Don't put too much thought into it. I'm sure Canon has some control over these "leaks" of info and pics and they want to give us just enough to be excited but save some suprises for the actual announcement. Don't you find it funny we get pics of every angle of the camera but the side with all the connectors?

I don't see why Canon doesn't use the same chasis to make two diferent 5d's, the first geared towards stills shooting, the second for video, then just add the inputs for head phones, xlr, or even mini xlr, and of course run different firmware, you could still have each camera shoot stills and vid, but of course they wouldn't have the same feature set. I would think they could capitalize on both fronts and make all the customers happy with something like that. Although, I honestly have no knowledge of the way these things are developed and manufactured.

I have to say though, the gh2 has spoiled me. It's hard to imagine canon has come up with a way to shoot such resolution with the new digic 5, we'll seee.

I HIGHLY doubt that this camera does not have RAW video. That would kill the C300 overnight. But, we see and mpeg-4 in there. HOPEFULLY, it's canons XF format at 422! I've had the XF105 for a couple months and I LOVE that codec! You can beat it to death before it falls apart. If XF is included and they fix the moire, improve the jello, I'M TOTALLY IN! Hell, even if the moire is there, I'll just buy that moire filter for the 5dmk2. I'm in anyway, I need it for my stills side of business. Built in stills HDR mode. Pretty cool.

Thats the plan, they announced this last year Nov 3. Cinema EOS is a whole new division of Canon.
It covers the c300 and all large sensor EF/PL mount camcorders and C series DSLRs

edit:
except technically they won't be DSLR's (single reflex) as it makes no sense to keep the mirror in the C series

"I suspect the no headphone jack (although a small thing) will not impress some"

Yep. For such a small bit of real estate, so lame for it to be excluded. So lame. A virtual FU to so many who have wanted this inexpensive, basic, fundamental "feature".

Would've been nice to have an articulating LCD screen a la 60D. Oh..I know.."That's not pro!".

Just clarification about where it states "File Formats – AVI, RAW, H.264, MOV, MPEG-4", at CanonRumors. This is only listed under specifications "File Formats", and it's for a stills camera on a site mainly read by stills photographers. So apart from the association, there's not much reason to think that this wasn't just stills RAW. Of course this doesn't rule it out being video RAW, just that it might not be as significant as someone thinks, who's reading it from the perspective of video.

Raw 22.3mp video in body huh?

...I guess anything is possible if you wish hard enough...

Although it would be interesting if their D5 was capable of doing a raw 22.3mp burst of at least 120 seconds of photos at 24FPS to super fast CF cards. Or a stream of video, either way. Lol of it was 30 seconds. Wonder how many people would go through the trouble of 30 second takes just to use it.

Then where is Jpeg capture for stills?
Also, the camera will have a headphone jack.

RAW 22.3mp, no way. But what about RAW 2.23? If it was windowed, that 10X function becomes interesting. We will see. We will see...

Hmmm.... 3x3? That would be strange. I've been messing with the math while waiting to get started on a color session and never came around to that conclusion.

Anyone have thoughts?

Hahah. 10x?!?!!? I guess for people shooting distant planets. xD

In windowed mode, Tokina's 11-16 would be roughly 33-48mm.
X5 and X10 are Canon's close focusing tools (referred to as Zoom Levels).

New LCD...there goes a few hundred on a new viewfinder.

The dedicated start/stop video button, where the live view was previously, might be a indication of more focus on the video aspect.

Also notice the "RATE" button on the left where the Profile button is on the Mark II. Would that be to quickly change frame rate without having to go into the menu?
