here is what my 24P clips look like after render, this applies to file to any disc or tape and playback on tv or pc,the files played before render show none of the jitter and play smooth direct to tv via hdmi,720P or 50i do not have the problem,my previous canons 25P also rendered smooth http://vimeo.com/17727423 ignore the filming defects i did not have a wide enough lens and did not film for slow motion and should not have put it in the file.
Any ideas why i get this problem with rendered 24P.

Hi

What editing software are you using and what files are you making?
Cheers
Paul

That was pinnacle 14 i have tried others but not the expensive pro software i doubt i wiil learn them now,i dont know what you meen by what files i am making, the GH2 files are on a timeline and rendered ie make movie, i can choose to make movie to disc BD AVCHD and DVD or file and even onto tape but they all show jitter after render, direct file play does not have jitter from the camera to tv,720P and 50i renders do not have jitter.Cheers thanks for the reply.

Because the file from youtube is 25p . There are inserted duplicated frames, so you get "juddery" playback. Verify that the export is 24p (before uploading to YT) . If it is, then YT screwed something up.

Its nothing to do with youtube everything i render filmed in 24P has the judder discs /files / tape,720 and 50i no problem, believe me i am talking about making my films on a proper format like blu ray,if i watch the 24P clips from the drive before they go to the software they have no judder like direct camera play but render causes the judder, thanks but you are on the wrong track.

The indisputable FACT - is your specific example downloaded from youtube has inserted frames and isn't 24p . Download it yourself and check if you don't believe me.

So either you screwed up, youtube screwed up, or your didn't use your software correctly

There was a bug a few years ago where youtube would convert 24p=>25p and you would get.... exactly this scenario

Cheers

The point is, if you simply try to render 24p as 25p, you'll get a judder. That's simply the math of it, so that's not how it's typically done. You have to speed 24p up by 4.271% and then render as 25p in order to get a 1:1 lineup of frames and eliminate the judder.

You have no reason at all to render as 25p for the web, though, or even DVD. Do it as 24p. Now, if Pinnacle doesn't give you the option to render as 24p (which it may well not), then you'll need other software which can do it.

Is there even a 24p timeline in Pinnacle? If not, there's your first problem.

PDR please get youtube out of this, forget youtube if i render and burn to blu ray its the same as i said whatever i render to is the same files discs everything,David you are right i think all the softwares i have tried may not have a 24P timeline but a 720P and our 50i timeline, when i render to file its mpeg 4 but its the blu ray and avchd disc problem i want put right mainly.by the way mpeg must be licensed for demos.

I believe you can get the Adobe Premiere + Encore working for a trial period that would allow you to set the timelines properly, and generate either a DVD or Bluray which has the correct 24p frame rate. The only problem is... if it does solve your problem it's about $1500 US to 'correct it'...

Did you mention your computer system? Sony Vegas I think I've seen people 'praise' it, and definitely have not heard of this sort of problem using it. On the Mac there is Premiere Elements, which is under $100 US, but I've not used it, so I don't know if it also suffers from timeline limitations on frame rate options. I do know that Final Cut Express only has either NTSC or PAL timelines, no 24p when I last used it, and sort of forced my switching to CS4 Premiere Pro and I've continued with CS5 PP.

I'm going to start doing some presentations in local libraries on how happy shooters for home videos can do 'better' than Windows Media or the like. So I should get Premiere Elements setup...

Final Cut Express 4 supports 24p.

Yes, it will not kack on logging and transfering 24p media, and the resulting Apple Intermediate Codec files are '24p' media... but when you set up your project, you only have the choice of Interlaced format, of either 60i or 50i depending on your local TV conditions...

One thing i dont want to lose any of 24Ps slight extra quality i dont understand having an interlaced choice i dont like interlaced, i will check F C E and see if i can handle and afford it ,thanks

oh no i use windows 7 is there a similar non mac software

If you want to do 24p properly, then you need software which can do it. The consumer-priced software isn't going to get you there. All of them are missing something which you need, even if it's a different thing on each one.

Your least-expensive option will be Vegas Pro. Not Vegas Movie Studio, but Vegas Pro.

For the Windows box there's Premiere Elements for a low cost entry. I saw some mention of using 24p in PE, but I'm not going to claim I know for sure at this point. Jimerson mentions Vegas Pro, which there is a section in the software forum, so you can get more details on its capabilities there. I use the Adobe products because... well I've used Photoshop since forever, and After Effects for about 8 years, but the Wife and I do presentations quite a bit, and it just seems that Premiere would fit into what we do better, for the fact that many of the people we present to, do have Windows boxes.

yes...movie studio supports 24p and 24p bluray no problem. SonyAVC .mp4s are nice. all my videos are done with an older version of movie studio. however, i transcode with Cineform and edit the .avi's, not the native .mts GH files.

so could i edit gh2 24p with movie studio without transcoding is that not a slow process and i dont know how to do it.also will studio mix frame rates like pinnacle thats one good thing with it you can have some 720P/50i and 24P films and render a BD no problem, but as my test showed even a few 24p clips on their render with jitter.thanks
