2012 - Yeah baby.

I like roland emmerich... well.. I like Stargate... that is by far his best film..

He is a decent director... if not an original storyteller.

He makes fun popcorn movies. He is far from bad... but not too close to great..

this is awesome , there is tons of evidence to explain the zero piont energy shift in 2012 dec 25th . you better hope you have your p2 cards and your hvx ready .

Roland Emmerich directing. Great idea for a movie, but it's going to be hollow with terrible acting and lots of huge visual effects waves crashing into stuff that you have no emotional connection with at all. Yippie. I'm over his movies. See: 10,000 BC, The Day After Tomorrow, Godzilla.

Hudson, you should be making this movie, this whole end of the world thing needs a fresh perspective. A real, gritty, indie film with a decent budget about some bad shi* going down (like "Right at Your Door" style). Big Hollywood Armageddon is so polished and shiny anymore, and that shouldn't be the way it goes down on film. My two cents.

I hope I eat my words and this is actually decent. I haven't seen one of his movies in the theater since The Patriot (which if I recall, I thought was pretty good).

I'm looking forward to hearing all the world-is-gonna-end types explain why life continues as usual on the morning following the Big Day, and why they are now madly hunting for the next fundamentally idiotic thing to place their faith in.

On second thought...

...I'm not.

Roland is an outstanding director who very rarely chooses to direct anything worthy of his ability. In fact, he seems to have an overwhelming instinct for choosing to direct stuff that would probably be awful, no matter who directed it.

visual FX galore.

"The end is just the beginning..." well, I think I'll check it out to see what the beginning is. I think most of us are used to visual fx galores to care much about it. I just hope the spectacular fx will compliment a spectacular story.

Ugh, so underwhelming.

Personally, I think after 9/11 and this terrorism debacle, I don't enjoy watching the destruction of American landmarks. Too close to home. This movie looks so cliche, so CGI, such a genre that we got too much of in the 90s.

Ps. Didn't he already make this movie?

Almost every shot of the trailer was a damned white plane flying over something on fire. Then the whole bit about the government building ships? Space ships ala Titan AE, or ARKs ala Deep Impact. What if the place where the ships were got susploded? PLOT HOLE!:banned:

The effects look cool and I love me some destruction, but yeah, Emerich needs to do something else. ID4 was good, Day After Tomorrow was cool, but the NY Tsunami seemed to wash away the plot, but this looks like the same shi*, larger scale.

I'll see it because I'm possessed by a demon who likes to spend money on Hollywood swill. Who knows...could be good.

edit....AND DANNY "I LOVE HUGO CHAVEZ" GLOVER as the PUSA!? Eff that...this movie now sucks. Along with the BS theory that the world will end in 2012. Lol. Finatical people need to learn to do some research. End of an age =/= End of the world.

OMG!!! I just rewatched the trailer...the USS JOHN F. KENNEDY was decommissioned in 2007...thus it would not have planes or helos on the deck, let alone be iff the coast of DC.

What’s interesting is that they (the producers) are effectively hiring the online new-age/conspiracy-theorist/nut-job community to carry out marketing duties for free by ending the trailer with that title card:

FIND OUT THE TRUTH
SEARCH: 2012

Oh – the hours of infuriating fun that can be spent doing such things!

------------

Regarding the actual movie/trailer, I doubt that I will ever actually see this film, as I suspect that the money-shot-driven trailer, along with an inevitable feature on FXGuideTV, will provide me with all that I would find interesting about it anyway.

Just curious: Are they many other folks around here with a profound interest and respect towards the art and science of VFX and the individuals who make it happen – but who otherwise have absolutely no interest in the films which tend to showcase such talent/technology at its most awe-inspiring/cutting-edge?

Saying that, I can’t believe they released this trailer before performing a rig-removal on the flying-giraffe shot @ 01:34!

I have the whole plot figured out from the trailer...

Yosemite Erupts (yes, it's a huge volcano, look it up) and effects the entire global structure.

The government, having lost all mental reservations for things deemed factual, have built these larger than NYC ships in some frozen reaches because frozen reaches have no people or buildings to show the destruction of, and are reasonably safe in the plot. But either way, no one knows that this is where the ships are because we don't care about anything beyond the borders of the US...why should we...we're American. And on that note...are other countries in on this construction to help foot the bill, and if so, will the ships suffer from defacto segregation? And how does the population work. If America and Saudia Arabis footed the most of the construction costs, do we get to have more people onboard than say...Guam?

God...this movie sucks ass, and I haven't even seen it yet.

I suspect that somewhere during the course of the film the characters will band together, acquire some tools, and restore the John F. Kennedy to operable condition. In about four minutes.

Indeed Max! You are a wise man in the ways of plot exploitation. This falls along the lines of Emerich's ID4 when they used an Apple to infect Alien hardware with a virus. Thank GOD the aliens used wireless TCP/IP connections consistent with 1996 technology on their infinitely advanced space ships.

Yea the trailer had some incredible shots but it was poorly put together. After that line by Cusack which was hardly audible the music just BANGS you in the head and starts at a really odd point. I actually love seeing shots like are in this trailer but I'm sure the story blows. Almost every FX house in the industry worked on this film in one way or another. With over 2500 effects shots it's amazing. Every shot is so amazingly dense with detail, debre, and particles. If something like this doesn't win an FX Oscar it's a shame.

I'm sure I'll give it my money just to see some nice shots and cool explosions/mayhem...just like I will for Transformers 2.

Lets just all agree here and now we don't see these kinds of movies for story, we see them because it's an hour or two of stuff blowing up....or in Transformers 2's case...150 something minutes of it (ugh).
