I have done side by side and hence the 'way' comment, I'll do a proper set up next week to post up but until then here's a simple test: have a look at the image quality difference between the two formats when connected to any monitor even a tv. You'll notice the resolution improvement straight away.

I have only used it on a tripod so cannot comment on jello effect but I'm guessing would still be there as it is a sensor and shutter issue not compression.

I had high hopes on the Alphatron, as I prefer to use an EVF, I was about to purchase one but then I tried it and found it unusable due to what I can only describe as lag when panning/tilting/moving. It is sharp and great but then you move and you can't tell what is in focus. I would love a 3rd party EVF like Sony's f55 one that is very impressive.

Anthony, it depends on what you are shooting, the style and how much you are willing to build up your camera's footprint. But when I tested a great monitor that also records uncompressed straight from camera I was sold.
No link posted to the video.

I guess the only reason I would say the sharpness difference would not be much, is because it is hard to beat the s35, and when working with the HDMI output recording, one would "zoom" in digitally in post by 7% to remove the black bars, which would not only reduce the true resolution, but cause further de-sharpening in the reappropriating pixels in a minor resolution change.

But that is all theory.

Again, an old low light test from a while back. You like to take pictures by moonlight, or night for day? Well here you go:

Hand held - Only moon light - 50mm f1.4

(4K mjpeg)
I still get scared of gradients

But seems that if you add a slight pattern or a gradient with greater variation, then it is not a problem, it is the skies and large subtle gradations that are the issue.

Here's a quick resolution test to show the sharpness across different modes on the 1DC recording externally 8-bit Prores422.

Not the most technical or perfect examples to shoot but you still notice the difference. Take into account online compression on the clips as it has affected the image specially with regards to some banding in the sky as it is not noticeable in the rushes except a bit on the MJPEG which I shot internally 4k and downconverter to Prores422 to see the difference. I shot them all in C-log and the MJPEG clips appear flatter but I think that is due to not realising the colour setting on the Samurai Blade had been shifted accidentally.

I used a Canon 24-70mm 2.8 L and zoomed to match the framing, I know resolution changes through different parts of the lens but that would be pretty minimal for this test. Focus on the INT shots are on the radio frequencies and on the EXT shot is obviously on bricks.

To my eyes the 4k shots are sharper than S35, it is a crisper and cleaner image that is really nice.

Keen to hear your thoughts.

Thanks for taking the time José!

Depending on how you feel about it, you might want to make a 1080p file downloadable for maximum fidelity. There are clearly differences between the clips as it is, but 720p is pretty forgiving for the lower resolution modes.

Seems the banding and sharpness improvement is telling even in the 720p vimeo version. Thanks José

The shift in C-log between in-camera and external prores wasn't due to the recorder been off calibration it just for some reason comes out differently.

I've never noticed this in any other picture profile only C-log but I will check again.

The only other difference which has been mentioned before is that the external recording is roughly 0.5 stop brighter than in-camera.

I have noticed that 4Kmjpeg is more subdued than s35 or ff35. Have you also found that C-log is actually less sensitive than the other picture styles? I have documented this in this thread. If I am exposing for the shadows, I have to expose at least a stop brighter than in other picture styles, otherwise the shadow detail is not there. not a problem, just seems to be the nature of the implementation of c-log, and something to be aware of if switching back and forth between photo and c-log video.

QUICK RELEASE systems.

What kind of quick release plates are you guys using? A couple months back I crafted a dual system plate for manfrotto and a ball head (similar to arca-swiss, but not sure the exact standard) It allows me two keep things light and flexible. I can switch between systems, but additionally I can work with manfrotto while having the ability to use something lighter and more video friendly on my rig setup.

This is especially useful when working with light tripods and sliders which invariably run into a manfrotto system at some point. They are just so ubiquitous with light and cheap. But it is impossible to use the manfrotto quick release plates in a rig setup. So removing the camera body from the rig before adding to the light weight slider is usually necessary. (I'll get a pic up)

Playing around with an Wondlan steadicam. I think in a pinch these are great, but if day to day work, go with a steadicam setup. Difficult to make precise adjustments. But for the quick and dirty, this thing is fun, and the 1D-C with just a lens and quick release system is the perfect weight for these things. One can operate for hours.

Anyone have any info on CF card prices? When do they drop? They are already appreciably lower than last year this time.

I am using 3 different system plates

1) the sliding plate( different length) that Satcher/Gitzo/manfrotto video head use ( similar to these http://www.gitzo.hk/birdwatching-accessories-plates)

2)Manfrotto RC2

3)Arca-swiss standard plate

Very cool.

My plate is Arca-Swiss and Manfrotto compatible. It is fun being able to switch to a ball-head, or slide the camera off the rig and go to a light manfrotto head. Also, my rig is v-mount quick release. So, I finally have a near universal system, that I don't need to swap out plates. Everything can stay configured and the camera goes between gear effortlessly.

I'm surprised I haven't seen any 2nd hand 1DC for sale in ages. The day they go cheaper I'd like to get one. :D
I may end up selling mine as it's finding itself sitting more than in use. But for the time being i'm trying to hang onto it. Check in with me after April and I may be selling it.

Curious what most of you guys are doing for Viewfinders? I was borrowing a Zacuto Pro EVF from a friend but want to try and run it a bit smaller. Can you just use the basic EVF from Zacuto with the body being taller?
