Love the title. Looking forward to seeing this one shot pulled off. I;d actually played with the idea of doing short in one shot and it's good to see other people take on that kind of challenge. Good job pulling it off dude.
I like the art concept on the poster... Jason who directed our short is just doing casting for a feature length 'found footage' film. I'm looking forward to this
You've been warned ... don't read any further if you haven't watch this...
This was the first entry I watched.
The good: I really like the concept of it just being random files on the camera instead of JUST the proof of his roommate and his actions. The added scenes of the guitar playing, etc I think were a great add. Also, you did a good job building tension. I DON'T do well watch scary movies, and you had me in my scared "I'm-watching-the-screen-but-only-barely" position, which is great. I also really liked that you didn't explain everything ... like the couch. Why was it there? Did he do it to keep the roommate out? Did his roommate put it there? Also, I liked the humor at the beginning with the "clean up your crap" talk. Made it really feel like he was frustrated.
The not as good: I can't say that after my initial watch that I fully understood what was going on. Maybe there could have been a reference to a "church" or "group meeting" he was going to (maybe there was and I just didn't get it). Also, who was that other guy at the end? AND how did the camera get turned on for the final clip? Did the main guy die? Was he "converted" (through vampiric efforts, etc)? Did you WANT that open ended?
I am sucker for this genre, and I thought you guys really nailed the vibe. Nice casual acting, very believable. I liked the simple plot, a guy's roommate starts acting creepy and the guy starts filming it. perfect set up. I agree with Hawk (and his suggestions) that maybe one or two hints at the cause of the roommate's behavior would have gone a long way. But I really enjoyed the amateur camera work, and i love the title of your movie. I did understand the ending, I think: (SPOILERS) The guy goes back in to get his car keys and gets attacked by the roommate and the camera falls on his stomach as the roommate drags him away. I bought it. Despite my wishes that you expanded on the story a bit, the key to this genre is to make sure everything seems pretty real, and I think you succeeded. Good job all around!
Alright, so first off I love this kind of movie. Blair witch/ handycam kinda stuff. It gets me because if it's pulled off right it automatically seems realistic. It was really useful in your situation to help build the story/tension and passage of time which I loved. Definitely had a creepy vibe throughout.
Some of my favorite parts/things/etc - I really loved the sound while the posessed guy was standing over his roomate sleeping. Just some faint humming with some bass was awesome, super creepy. I also liked fast forwarding through stuff and whatnot, I was also happy to be able to see the roomate's reflection in the computer when he is showing the footage to him. I don't know exactly why but it added to it a lot.
Things I didn't like - I thought when the main actor was talking to the camera or himself he nailed it, super believable. When they were talking to each other though it just felt a little off, not horrible though, I'm just being nitpicky. I thought the reaction when we first see him open his roomates door was not sold as much as it should have. Even though I expected the sleeper to be right at the door it still scared me, I would have expected the guy with camera to be more startled. I think you could cut the shot of the first time the demonic guy stands over his roomate sleeping Just a few seconds off, especially the end where there is nothing but him sleeping......unless I missed something.
Finally to echo a few before me, I didn't quite get the ending. I think there were multiple people at that point who were demonic/possessed/zombified/whatever but if that is true I think there could have been more to build on as far as this thing spreading or whatnot. I was sold to believe that it was just his roomate, but if I am correct that there were multiple people at the end then where did they come from, etc......Though your credits of "cult member" do help this a bit!
Seriously though, this was really well done and fun to watch. My critiques are pretty small, in the end I enjoyed it and it creeped me out which is the goal. Good work!
Enjoyed much - liking the Paranormal Activity style. Of the five so far viewed this is my favorite.
One item for thought. He grabbed his camera and ran out of the house terrified yet kept a pretty steady cam?
Unlike a lot of people I really hope this style dies. There is only so many things you can do and pretend it was all random. This probably won't stop me from trying to write one someday, but not my favorite type of film.
All that being said this had a real weird sense to it. I did wonder who collected the footage and what actually happened. Overall a nice Halloween short. Oh, and the sped up shots were cool!
