Indulge me for a moment, because this is pretty strange/funny: 1. go to google 2. search for "production companies los angeles" or "production companies in los angeles" 3. ??? 4. profit Unfortunately the real problem here is that the only people who ever perform this search are usually...

Anyone ever shot on one of these? Curious to hear about your impressions and experiences.

Ever have one of those days where all cylinders are just completely firing with you and your team/crew, and you just absolutely own anything you touch? Having one right now. Just nailed a pitch for something that's never been done. Very, very exciting stuff. These are the days that make the...

"Dr. Bonesaw" is the first horror feature that will be produced by the movie villain's victims (that's you guys!). It's Grey's Anatomy with a serial murderer on the loose. As a sexy and promiscuous young medical staff begin falling victim to Bonesaw's blade, the body count will include plenty of...

Can we PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE get a video embedding function that supports some of the more common video sites around here? As a filmmaking forum, it sure would be nice if it was a lot easier to show off our work. Sites I recommend supporting: YouTube, Vimeo, blip.tv, Strike.TV, Facebook...

Today is September 2nd, which means today is the day our web show, Coma, Period. is live on the internet! Dan Humford had an accident. Now he’s in a coma, forever caught in the infinite white canvas of his own mind, where he’s haunted by memories, personal insecurities, and sometimes candy...

Is anyone in one? I'm looking for a new one. If not, would anyone be seriously interested (not internet interested) in forming one? I don't have a lot of experience with groups but mostly I just want a semi-formal setting to make and share progress. And I want it to be in-person; I don't...

I usually carry around a little moleskin notebook, because I often do think up little scene ideas or solutions to problems I've been grappling with when I'm out and about. Sometimes the key to a problem is to not think about it for a while. I tried the pocket recorder thing for a while but I...

You wanted an official thread, you got an official thread! I'm psyched about the screening, and the lovely new theater is only 2-3 blocks from my office building, so after the screening I'm inviting anyone who wants to come back to the office to chill. We have a projector and can continue to...

We were looking for an intern. We weren't prepared for what we'd get. This is a true "story." http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bbz83Yc4dNw&feature=player_embedded (I really wish there was a working embed code around here!)

Then stay local until your reel/reputation commands that kind of compensation. You're right, it's a tough market and you have to compete. But you're not making yourself competitive by bidding on distant jobs and then paying your own expenses. You're just making yourself poor.

This should be required reading for anyone who's serious about photography. http://thispicturesucks.wordpress.com/ The tone is in-your-face and unapologetic, and I sort of love it for that. I feel better knowing that someone else has spent time sifting through the atrocious HDR minefields of...

Hey everyone, I wrote an article that might be of interest to anyone that's putting out shows (or any video at all, really) on the web. http://www.psychicbunny.com/blog/2009/250/the-hypocrisy-of-rules-for-web-video/ I'd love to hear your comments, especially if you've got an episodic show or...

There's not really a good category to put this in, so I guess it'll go here. I am currently in development on a project that would require lots of shooting outdoors in snow and cold weather, which is pretty much the one condition I've never had to worry about. So I'm looking for tips and...

Is anyone working on 3D films on a less-than-studio budget? If so, the Short Shorts Film Festival in Tokyo would like to hear from you about what the experience was like, and the costs. I am not affiliated with Short Shorts, but one of my partners was there with his film last year, and had...

Here's an idea I had... I'm asking you to help me figure out if it'd be worthwhile. As I was watching a couple user films and other indie films lately, a thought occurred to me... there's tons of indie camera rental houses, indie grip trucks, low-cost gear... but I don't think there's really...

Got one in the L.A. area? Let me know! PM or post here with rates. This is for this coming weekend, Saturday through Monday.

I brought this up in another thread, but I think it was probably overlooked... do you think it would be possible to add a plugin to handle screenplay formatting for the boards? It would be a great help to those members trying to share snippets from their scripts, as well as to anyone trying to...

We're looking for a qualified, inventive location scout to help track down some a couple very difficult locations. There is a possibility the production will travel, but most likely the location must be found in Southern California. This is a fully paid, non-union gig, starting immediately...
