We will see AI features in consumer cameras first. Until AI does a reliable job at faking things on the first try, it's too volatile to put into high end investments like cinema cameras.
I mean, if you can use your practicals to actually cast the light on the walls and faces, it will be much easier than to just use your practicals for motivating light. I guess maybe shooters now don't have to think about things the same way? At 100 ISO, a 40W bulb didn't count for much. But if...
You defiinitely want to lean on your practicals. If you can avoid shooting one wall, you can leave it white/beige for bounce fill. Otherwise you'll need the extra space for cards when needed.
I'd also focus your efforts on the windows. Having a little bit of motivated cooler light can help avoid...
The Dracast panels are a really good value. Unless you plan on beating them up or reselling them in a year, I wouldn't pay the extra for the Astras.
If you don't have one already, you should really consider an A7s II. It changed my world for available light documentary-style work.
I have a client who is asking for me to shoot on the FS7 in a LUT that doesn't need much grading, but isn't log. Their impression is that there is some magical gamma I can apply to make the footage look great coming out of the camera and still give them dynamic range to change it if they don't...
I'm a new owner of the FS7 and trying to figure out which Sony and third-party accessories are must haves. So far, I've learned that aftermarket batteries (even the chipped ones) that work with the EX1, EX3, etc. don't necessarily work with the FS7. But I'm curious if anyone has any opinions...
Hello all,
I've been trying to bring a bunch of footage edited on Edius 6 into FCP 7 and/or compressor using the Avid DNxHD codec (115, 24fps, 1920x1080, 8-bit RGB, no alpha).
When the footage comes in, the black levels are bumped up, like there was a problem with old-school NTSC setup at 7.5%...
I've got 2TB of Canon dSLR and GoPro footage, with each memory card dump in a separate sub-folder/directory, within a date directory. I want to batch convert everything to match with Sony XDCam 35mbps HD, then pluraleyes and multiclip edit.
Compressor will let me batch convert but I can't find...
I've been working in After Effects on some jumpbacks and decided to release them as Creative Commons. Not that Digital Juice doesn't make awesome jumpbacks, but I felt there should be more free options out there for people with no budget, especially non-profits and the like.
They are on Vimeo...
Hi all,
I'm DP-ing a labor-of-love feature project in Wisconsin in January. First Unit will be shooting the second and third weekend. The film is a modern drama with strippers, lesbians, kidnapping, and murder. I have DPed shorts and a feature in the past but mostly single-cam.
What I have...
I'll be lighting a location that was formerly a bar. It has only a few 20A 110v branches. It does have a bunch of L14-30 connections that I assume were used for coolers or cooking equipment. If I go hardware shopping, am I right in assuming I can convert each of these outlets into 2 15A 110v...
I'm posting this to get some feedback and to do some thinking out loud.
I've been in college for the last four years pursuing an undergrad degree in Radio/TV/Film. I have two semesters to finish. Someday, I'd like to get an MFA in Cinematography. I'm 29 and live in Wisconsin.
I have a...
