Wiring/Electric Question

I'll be lighting a location that was formerly a bar. It has only a few 20A 110v branches. It does have a bunch of L14-30 connections that I assume were used for coolers or cooking equipment. If I go hardware shopping, am I right in assuming I can convert each of these outlets into 2 15A 110v outlets with common ground and neutral? Are the phases opposite?
(This is in the U.S., if that helps.)

I thought so, but at almost $50, it seems pricey. I could build my own with GFCIs for less, but it proves it can be done safely. Thanks!

Yeah, but you wouldn't want to make them with GFCI's....

Anyways, looks like you found a pretty good solution. You could probably make your own for a tiny bit cheaper...but at that price I don't know why you would want to. Plus you could always keep em for later down the line.

Hello Prof,

Just a thought; you might want to check the voltage at the outlet. More than one electrician has run 220v through outlets like that to cheat some cost on a retrofit. Might save you some bulbs by spending 30 seconds with a meter. If you get a leg to leg reading of more than 125vac, then check further.

Best Regards,
Grant
