FS7 Accessories

I'm a new owner of the FS7 and trying to figure out which Sony and third-party accessories are must haves. So far, I've learned that aftermarket batteries (even the chipped ones) that work with the EX1, EX3, etc. don't necessarily work with the FS7. But I'm curious if anyone has any opinions on a rails system, monitor, third party XQD cards, or anything else.

I'll get the Zacuto Universal VCT baseplate too.

Concerning 3rd party accessorizers (if you let me use this word) Vocas is very good too and I plan to take their top handle and new follow-focus.

Other are of course available : Solid Camera, Berkley, Chrosziel, Movcam is doing a rig for FS7 too.

Wooden Camera is coming up with something really nice, a 3-in-1 system consisting of a top plate plus PL mount and small plate with rods.

Ive spent most of the week didling with the RnG build of the camera.

Went out last night and did a proper shoot - today my shoulder is done and I feel like ive pulled a tendon in my middle right finger. Back to the drawing board!

Im not suggesting one brand or another but I would suggest that great care is needed in making the camera 'work', IMO there are some terrible errors in the deisign.

The best build I can come up with puts the camera upside down and on my left shoulder - Im just concerned that upside down footage could confuse clients, and slow renders - so this is not acceptable unless there is flip footage in the menu somewhere!

Sam I'm trying to picture how you shoot wanting the camera upside down and on left shoulder. I find this camera great with a shoulder baseplate and that is it or with a 2-4lb counter weight if on shoulder for a long time. We all have different shooting styles. I tend to hold it very much like an ENG cam.

About accessories I just ordered the berkley top plate. It looks like a great solution that isn't bulky and keeps stock functions.

I was about to order 2 more 64gb XQD S cards from B&H the other day and then went back the next morning and they were all gone and discontinued. Sucks because the price difference is over $100 for 2x64GB cards between the S & the G cards. Wish there were more 3rd party XQD makers. Why hasn't Sandisk jumped on there.

Have you actually done any work with it yet? - actual jobs - because if not then you might be in for a ride!

If you strip the camera down flip it and put it on your shoulder you will instantly feel more connected - build from there.

Of course I wont use it like that!

Nothing for more than an hour or so on the shoulder. I guess comfort is all relative. I find this current FS7 setup much better than how I used to use the C300 rigged for shoulder use. I've had the C300 on my shoulder for over 8hrs straight for a BTS doc of an awards show.

Amazon still has the 64 GB S-series for $295 right now. I'm guessing G-series will be needed for RAW.

I would get cramps all the time shooting with the C300. So far, I've been able to rest the back of the cam on my chest, but that only works because I'm tall. I'll definitely need a shoulder pad for full day shoots.
