GH5 How interested are you in a GH6 anymore?

If cameras continue to roll out how they have been the last two years, it will likely depend on where you're getting it from.

If you didn't preorder from B&H within the first hour or so, you might see it in the middle of the summer.

But on the other end of the spectrum, some local brick-and-mortars in the middle of nowhere might have an extra unit laying around.

Correct and, once again, correct. Their typical video is Chris shooting stills outside with Jordan shooting Chris shooting stills outside. In manual. Because Chris isn't on a Pogo stick and Jordan isn't shooting 16 mm F..95. In other words, the distance is set, the lighting is from G-d and their video look is the video look. Which is great if all one snaps is someone fishing or eating cereal. But most want to see more demanding sequences.

PS. A friend has Nikon D7200. And he's a Foosball aficionado, plays it himself very well. Recently he posted a whole bunch of stills taken at a tournament. The tournament is held at some bar, w/ mixed lighting and all sorts of practicals and impracticals in the frame. Including the reflection from beer mugs. He says, "I got to shoot Raw because I constantly have to push/pull the image".

I think he may as well have used a smartphone but he's being nice to people and they appreciate it. But the camera is having a really hard time.

I pre-ordered on BH & Amazon in the first 60 seconds to make sure I get it day 1.

BH doesn't have an ETA but their rebate offer for pre-order ends 3/25, and Panasonic on their livestream said the camera is available "Mid march" (which probably means late March). Meanwhile, my Amazon delivery date currently reads 3/29.

Just an FYI - CineMatch can transform quite effectively most popular cameras to other colorspace now and works very well. I appreciate when I like the camera color out of box but at this stage it doesn’t actually matter much anymore if you’re shootings for yourself. I can buy a Sony and make it Panasonic color or vice versa. I can buy a GH6 and make it GH5S color or vice versa. I wouldn’t shop too much on that if you’re in control of your footage…. Personally.

Yes middle of nowhere in Indy! I guess the demand for a non Phase AF camera is pretty high!

Ordered mine and will trade my GH5 and keep my GH5S. Continuous autofocus of no concern to me as I do not use. I do use touch focus though that has worked great on the GH5 and GH5S . Availability says March 14 but do not believe until it turns up.

Yup, apparently all new cameras. People love and buy cameras.

This one is loaded and too cheap to ignore and as a result it's become a #1 seller...something I did not predict. [If data is accurate.]

You were looking at parameters that people like me, the buyers, did not find important. I was only waiting for it to arrive. Everything I knew about it last year was fine for me. 5.7K 60P 10bit , simultaneous internal and external recording, USB C PD power etc. You seemed focused on continuous autofocus which I do not use at all. As do many others, clearly. Or at least it is not as important to them. Don't want shallow depth of field, in fact want the opposite so full frame is not on my list at all.

Strong words! There are many different segments of the market. To be sure, FF AF users are not 100%, but it's not 0% either. No single segment fully constitutes "the buyers".

Ultimately we're each working around different use cases. I'm happy that the GH6 is such a good fit for you! It is an extremely worthy upgrade to my GH5

And from most early reviews the continuous AF is a lot better.

better? or actually reliable? not the latter, from what I've heard... I think that AF has to get really, really good before it's even worth considering

I know...I know...no AF because you shoot dark stages. And then you have your other camera for family vacations. You said it. A lot. lol

I do still think the majority of the sales are coming from the older generation, but impressive nonetheless.

I missed this post and I love it!

This camera is such a pain to use but I cannot let go of this color science. I have completely stopped grading footage and that's quite unbelievable to me.

For me, there was never anything in a camera that made it worth keeping as much as this besides maybe AF, but AF was on different models.

Color science and DR I love has not come often to me.
