Hi Gordon,

Somehow I thing it gets lost in the translation. "Dec is here, what is the status on production?"

Merry Christmas

Stephen

Be cool Stephen. Sometimes skeptics are good people.

Red have been really open about this from the start.

Personally I'd be nervous if they did try to rush the camera out just to satisfy some people who are tapping their fingers on the desk. Jim should take as much time as needs be, becasue you know the first people to complain that a feature is missing will be the same as those going ' I want it now!!!'.

As far as Im concerned the longer they have to work on it, the better it will be, and the more versatile it will be. I understand some people would like the camera sooner than later, to them I would say you should have a backup plan anyway.

back to the topic..

How is anyone kissing ass by asking Jim to please take his time to get the camera right?

i didn't mean that..

It seems that most of us would rather have it right than right away. Personally, I really really hope that Red is still allowing enough time to make lots of changes if necessary based on feedback from lots of prototypes in the field. If that means delivery later on in 2007 then that's fine with me.

sure.. speak for yourself and for the others who are thinking the same than you.. not for myself or for the others are thinking and needing the same than myself..

for many posters here, features & features, posting & posting, having jim reading their posts, reading jim's posts, dreaming with more features, it rocks..

for me and others: high resolution (image and audio), good codec for DCI requirements (REDCODE), cine-look like qualities (dof, latitude, color rendering & temperature etc), motion up to 60 fps or as far as possible but not less as it was announced.. lightweight form factor (which means small), modularity (future upgrades etc) and format agnostic (still lenses mounts, REDCINE) IT'S ENOUGH, IT'S GOOD LIKE IT IS!

will i need more than this?.. nope.. just time for shooting.. so give me the baby as i could find with those girls at the gus station and i'll be happy.. otherwise, i can call you selfish boys because you want the toy only for you.. :)

If you're saying that you expect it by NAB because of Jim's word, then you're misinterpreting his word. Is this giving him space to delay? Absolutely, if that's what it takes to get our baby dialed in.

reading the thread you'll find what i want to mean.. otherwise, it seems there are a lot of people posting and having this as fav sport.. or don't know where can raise the money to hold the puchase.. i dunno, what i said it is what i could read since the beginning..

those attacks on schedule intrigues my euro free spirit.. and this is the only answers that i can find to justify your mood..

different needs.. what's the beef? the red one will be obsolescence proof anyway..

I'm not so sure of that. As filmmaker already said: the world is not black & white.

Can there be who won't need such versatile features or not?

The bottom line is that no one should be scheduling projects around this camera. I would not want to be the DP or an operator on a show that was using this technology out of the box.

Give them time to get it right and let the camera settle in for a few minutes before you commit it to its first project. If you're planning on lensing a project before the 3rd or 4th quarter with RED, you're setting yourself up for considerable heartache.

word. This is disruptive tech, not only will change the status qou within the industry, it will upend your own workflow, give yourself time to aclimate before embarking on the BIG project.

It's not an unfair point.

There are so many different people here. Who wants a digital cinema camera regardless those features which all of us know it requires time. Who needs it for yesterday. Who doesn't need nothing even for today. Who follows this project from the outside without holding any reservation. Who needs this new camera as far as it is possible to deliver. 'cause they need time to raise funds, bought a HVX during 2006 and etc etc etc.

There was who didn't invest in any way other than as the RED ONE. And all these people must be respected and listened to. But this is not a problem if we understand all the perspectives beyond ours.

It's not just features that need to get dialed in, it's ergonomics as well, and some of those won't be so easily upgradable once they're settled on.
