Zacuto Shootout Part 3?

its weird that the people who viewed it had good things to say but the people who were involved in post said they had a hard time grading the ones in dslr.

Yeah, I got the feeling they know which side there bread is butter on, and bit their tongues a little.

All in all, I think that the "Shootout" was a good thing, but of course with limitations. I am glad I bought a HD-DSLR (T2i). Of course, I am not going to ever say it is, "Just as good as film", but I like it.

The only thing that not like me, was there no have any comments on the GH1, the shoots on GH1 was on silence, and no comments from no one.

Maybe they were framed differently because they all have different sensor sizes. Wouldn't trying to frame these different sensors the same while in the same lighting cause some sort of shift in how much light hits each sensor? I dunno if I'm making sense. But I would think if I had to pull the 7D backwardds to get the same frame as the 5Dll...then I would have less light hitting the 7D's sensor than the 5Dll. Then there's the GH-1...which would have to be moved back even further...etc.

I'm a neophyte when it comes to these things. A real neophyte. So I'm going out on a limb here.

Wouldn't the crop sensor of the GH1 mean that the girl and flowers would look "closer" if the camera distances were the same?

thats why a chart test works better than a hot asian chick taking a bath.

although when i think of it now, i would shoot the hot asian chick taking a bath instead of the test chart...

Not quite. You would have to either open up the iris to get more exposure or step up the ISO, so you could get the same exact light reading for all cameras. Distance I don't think is an issue, if less light is hitting the sensor because the camera is positioned further back, then you boost the sensor up to be more light sensible, so it works out the same.

Yup. That's why I was saying they would have to movie it backwards to get the same FOV as a camera with a bigger sensor.

.. and if they have to move the GH1 backwards to get the same FOV then less light is striking the GH1 sensor and the comparisons are no longer valid since you are comparing well lit Cannons with less well lit GH1s. This is especially relevant in some the earlier tests.

Right,

But the GH1 view was "further away" than the other cameras. Does that mean that even less light was coming in?

I wonder if somebody on the test got their focal length multipliers mixed up?:Drogar-BlackEye(DBG
I think I remember reading that a different lens was used on the GH1, so it's possible that there was a mix up. It still doesn't explain why the girls face was so soft on the flower tests though.

I've watched every shootout so far and it seems like they don't spend much time setting the GH1 up. Any number of people here could have gotten better results on that flower shot with the GH1. It seems like they just hurriedly stick it into the test.

Remember in part 1. The contrast chart for the GH1 was blurry, and off axis too. GH1 tests had the mistakes... Weird

The reason that is was blurry as to fill the frame of the latitude chart the camera needed to be at a certain distance from it and the minimum focus on that zeiss lens was not short enough.

I was at the AFI LA screening of the tests, there was an hour or so of conversation with many more details about the tests. Steve did try to explain that they didn't have an adapter for the GH-1 so they didn't use the same zeis glass so they couldn't get the macro of the latitude test right. The only advantage is the GH-1 being at a higher stop allowing for more sharper images in some of the tests.

GH1 was used with stock zoom while others with Zeiss primes?
This is as I understand it.
And how they can start this lamp rendering talk if they use ultrazoom lense and compare it to prime? Are they nuts?
