Hello, i've some hughe probem with 3months old HXA1.

after choose Tv, Av, M or any other Rec Mode

1. Black LCD screens
2. No Display on LCD, even Colour BARS
3. Buttons not working
4. Power Wheel lights available, HDV and Green Indicator.

Recording is not available.

Zoom butto on top - working - zoom button on cassete deck - not working

any sugestions ??

In Playback mode - everything works ok, LCD, play/rec etc.

i Suppose a broken CCD Matrix ? Possible ?

I recorded some nature, then off camera.... after 2-3min turn on camera - and here is this problem...

Reset etc... nothing happened.... I suppose - need go service... damn

ps Sorry for my english...

Standby... i checked all before... i've 4 other cams, so i check all...

i can turn on the power (for Recording) - Power Wheel is lightning... HDV appears and green led - appears (so Camera is ON - Record Mode)

I see LCD is powered, but BLACK, buttons not working, nothing on display/LCD - everything is ON, but no picture...

i suppose damaged CCD's Matrix - but i find something else - Zoom button on Cassete cover, not working (on upper grip - working)

tommorow i'll send it to service - i'll inform about it

Hey. Exact same thing happened to my XHA1.
yes, its dead. I had to send mine back to Canon For repairs.

problem? took them 3 months to send me it back.
tough luck bro.

I sended my cam yesterday to service, so i'm waiting for analysis.

Not good news coming from you bro.... 3moths - sounds really bad... :Drogar-Thinking(DBG

i'll inform what's happened with my cam soon... thanx

I had the exact same problem with my Canon Gl-2. I have had nothing but trouble with Canon. I actually sold my A1 to buy a dvx and I don't regret it at all.
I hope you get your camera back soon.
Best of luck

after 2weeks, service....

everything working good, camera is working

they said me the problem was "lens steering module" - they replace it, also they said it could be depend of - some kind of light shock, hit or smth

i always keep my equipment in good contition - so it's weird to me... but guaranty service is done....

so now.... time to send this camera to earn money..... bye

2 weeks isn't bad turn around time. I'm having trouble with my autofocusing. It seems to continuously shift in and out. Though I rarely use it, considering it's still in warranty I've thought about sending it in...too bad it's peak season for business now.

I'll never forget when I thought my A1 died....the StandBy was on "DOH!."

I do remember the exact moment when my heart stopped and my stomach went into my throat.

I hate owning this stuff lol.

I just got my A1 today, and just when i put the tape in, I got my first warning "remove cassette"...I removed it, put it back in, and I was good to go. But it made me real nervous, and still kind of does...I bought it 7 hours ago!...ahh well.
