OTHER: XDCAM PDW software driver needed (firewire)

Yes, Raul. Why Sony doesn't archive this stuff I have no idea. Well I guess I do. If there is no software to support these cameras and decks, drives etc they must assume people will give up on the hardware. Very often perfectly good cameras and decks.

Well, here you go. Up she goes again. This is the package I uploaded previously. It has everything I ever collected while I was shooting and editing XDCam.

Download it from my Google Drive. I'll leave it up there for a couple of weeks:

Good luck!

Hi Chris,

Just wanted to say thanks for sharing the FAM Driver! Couldn't find it anywhere else. Really appreciate you keeping this alive for us XDCAM users.

Cheers,

No problems, buddy. I've been in this business too long to throw out software and firmware and end up regretting it. For the last 40 years now it's been keep it, "Just in case?" :D (y) Hope it solves your needs.

Thanks a lot.

Chris,
I have two PDW-D1 drives, and I had just about given up on getting them to connect, until I found your upload here.
The driver itself seems to have worked! So now they are actually connecting and showing up, in the OS at least. Thanks a ton!

Sadly, they seem to be incompatible with the XDCAM Drive Utility Software that you've shared. Seems to be specifically for PDW-U1 and PDW-U2?
Any chance you have an older version of the utility software laying around somewhere? In the manuals, it is referred to as "PC Utility for PDW-D1".

In any case, thanks a lot for sharing the stuff here! You made my day

Torgard.

Wow! Was that was a dive into my old archive discs. In the process I found some earlier XDCam Drive Software. These packages from memory were the software to actually use various XDCam drives. They are verions 2.2.1 and 4.0.2.3.

Whether they are of use to you, well I guess you will have to suck them and see. These packages are .EXE files for PC. I have no Mac versions. Seems like an eternity ago since I used this software though I do still have an XDCam PDW VTR in the edit suite. If people come in with XDCam discs I just capture from SDI these days.

But you are welcome to give the files a go. You can download them in a Zip file called: XDCam Drive firmware [early versions] from my Google Drive @

Good luck. Let us know how you go as sometimes the info is useful for others in the same boat.

Hi Chris,

Thanks for digging through your archives, I really appreciate it!
Alas it seems the older utility software is also only for PDW-U1, not PDW-D1. It doesn't find the drive, and the older utility even pops up an error saying "PDW-U1 is not connected."

Nonetheless, these old drivers are gold. The PDW-D1 does seem to work with the included drivers.
On the newer utility—the one you linked earlier—the drive even shows up in the logs. So it does actually work.

So again, thanks a lot!

Best,
Aksel

SORRY! SORRY! Aksel

My bad! I've only just realised you were talking about a Sony IMX "PDW-D1"... not a U1. I kept blindly seeing "U1". I totally missed that. That is the old 'Firewire' 1394 disc deck. That's a whole different ball game!

Believe it or not in the back office I have an old PC. It has one purpose in life. To digitise DV and DVCam tapes that clients bring in. I have couple of DVCam decks. I also have a Sony PDW XDCam HD deck that occaisionally I have to use to ingest XDCam discs. I used to shoot on XDCam disc cameras back in the day so had the deck for ingest. Many of the XDCam cameras and decks had 1394 Firewire ports. From memory most of them ran fine on the last of the Sony FAM driver releases. That was "Sony FAM Driver_Mac_v2_3_2_Win_v2_3_0". Believe it or not I'm sure I have uploaded these here before.

Anyway. Hunting around the installed software 'archive' on that old box I found I have that FAM driver software package listed above. Back in the day Iwas running Windows 7 for all my Sony software. To run the FAM driver on Win 10 and 11 you need to install and run it in Windows 7 Compatability Mode. Also you may need to update and install Windows Legacy Firewire Drivers. I've included some rough notes on how to do that and included them in a ZIP file with both the Mac and Windows FAM drivers. Make sure you read the "READ ME 1ST" file before installing the drivers.

THe original PDZ-1 software to handle the ingesting I no longer have. It was replaced by Sony's "XDCam Browser" software. Which I used for a long time. It was later replaced by Sony's Catalyst software. Should you need the last version of XDCam Browser just let me know as I still have that.

You can download the FAM software from the link below. Hope it helps!
