WOW: my new shoulder mount with rod support

That looks gr8! Is the high rise camera plate absolutely necessary for a FF? I got the standard low plate on mine.

Got my package today, had almost forgot about it ordered the 13th if i recollect correctly. Won this auction for 225$ and added 2 pairs of 10cm rods for 12$ a pair which brought me to a total of 300$ delivered to my door.

As for the product, this stuff is awesome quality nothing to complain about, when you lock something it stays solid.

Snapped a shot of the parts fresh out of the bubble-wrap as well as a quick configuration i made which actually works stunningly with 4 points of contact.

I need the riser when i use a mattebox, for FF i think it's ok to use only a standard plate

that's why I bought two of the sets. This way I can combine everything as I need it. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=180417683805&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=180418086818&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT Shipping was PRICY!!! I had to pay 110.- for both items - which is very expensive. I contacted the seller if there's a cheaper way to send the stuff - no reply. I also have to say that the communication with Gini isn't that easy... often I got no reply at all. looking forward to my stuff. Will post some images if you want.

I saw the gallery, and saw that you have it....

But your post:

Hey. I've updated the gallery to show the new foam grips I've added and the problem that I see when trying to use the gini rig with my manfrotto quick release.

I didn't see what problems you were actually having...

I may be an idiot.

I tried offering 220 for that setup but no luck... It looks like what Im looking for. Is it easy to tighten up and do the screws work well?

I got a letter from the custom-folks - my special friends - and I have to pay bout 50.- bucks. Well still this Gini rig is pretty cheap.
I'll post pics as soon as I got my hands on the stuff... then I can check what the problem is with the quick release.

Sorry Brandon. Had to run out and didn't have time to explain. When trying to put the quick-release plate on the support rigs camera plate you will see that it doesn't fit flush because the release pin mechanism drops lower than the bottom of the quick release plate. You can probably make it happen, but would have to shim things or put washers under it to get it level.

What I'm saying might not make sense, but look at the picture in the gallery that says NOT SO QUICK RELEASE....you will see that the QR plate doesn't sit evenly on the base plate.

I mentioned before that I use the manfrotto 577 with the standard camera plate and quick release base. I use four of these to go between rigs. Not as small and light as the small QR sytem, but works well for using many rigs and allows for forward/backward balancing, which is a big plus.

Hell, I might be making this worth.

Let me know if you have any other questions that I can try to answer.

Jason

@ Jason. Are you saying that the manfrotto 577 works and the QR doesn't? I'm thinking 577 for me because I have an old 501 head and I understand the 577 uses the same camera plate as the 501. Can you confirm this?

Ordered one...had to go all the way to 255 (320 after shipping).

I guess you snooze, you lose.

Excited, though. How do these rails handle a bigger camera, like an HVX (which I have)?

I think you can make the QR work, but you'll have to jerry-rig it in certain applications. I have the little QR system, which would probably work on the monopod (without) the head I put on it and on the Bush Hawk, but then I would have to take it off to make it work with all other configurations.

so....

I prefer the 577, because I can use it with my 503 head and then go into other configurations. I have (4) 557's that I use. ONe is on the gini-rig, one is on the Bush Hawk, one is on the tripod head I put on my monopod, and the other is used for my vest stabilizer rig (haven't tested it yet). That way I can start at the tripod (i assume the 501 would be the same plate as the 503) and then go into any configuration quickly.

That said, I can throw my 503 on my high-hat dolly to get quick dolly shots and then can take the head off of the monopod and put it on my micro-dolly.

I think for the money it's a great way to be covered in all situations without having to mess around and the key is the 577, IMHO.

Now, I'll have to do is go shoot something :)

SHould be fine with bigger cameras. The rigs are fairly adaptable. You may need some rod extensions, however. What's nice about the standard rig is that it's fairly compact and feels better with the small, vDSLR form factor.

I have a bigger birns and sawyer shoulder mount that I used with the HVX/DVX (which is perfect for that), but it's just too big IMHO for the slr's.

You should be fine with the gini rig for the HVX.

I'm really excited, thanks for your help, insanity :)

I just hope I get all of my pieces. The rods are cheap, so getting longer ones is no biggie.
