WOW: my new shoulder mount with rod support

Hey, hey! Quite the find. It looks to be of really decent quality. I'm in need of a riser so my gh1 can mate with the matte box properly and the tripod plate inverted looks like it might fit the bill perfectly. And they are in Korea so basically just over the road from me :) Thanks for posting!!!

I got the item shipped to Australia in less than 5 days, including customs clearance!
I am still amazed with the quality.
Their buy now price seems a bit high, but you can make an offer.

Not bad. I have my shoulder mount stuff taken care of so I'm just interested in the bits and pieces...I'm not sure how they are expecting to sell the complete one for 1200 especially if you have to supply your own handles...maybe it's just that good ;)
I'll be keeping an eye on their stuff and thanks again!
Cheers,
Sam.

I won mine in an auction. The 'buy now' price was was many times more than what I paid for.
It looks that quite often items go on auction, he is probably testing the market.
Keep a close eye, or make an offer.

The link doesn't work
:-(

Oops... fixed link.... Though, I have yet to update the album to add the last configuration that I made... Only need three rods and two connectors... Once I get the Manfrotto 394 RC4 to attach on the baseplate, I think it will be sweet...

How sturdy are the hand grips in this setup? Since the angle of the hand grips are only held by the friction of the knobs, I wonder if the rod will slip and twist, resulting in hand grips that moves when it is under heavy load.

Especially if I plan to add some counterweight at the end of the shoulder pad, I want the rig to act like one solid piece. Is it the case with your rig?

The rig is very solid, especially for such a light camera. I have reconfigured mine completely, even removed the shoulder pad and I use the connectors to adapt to my new design. I will post a video in the next few days t see it in action.

I have used this configuration on the notorious RED ONE that is anything than user friendly for hand held shooting, and I can tell you that you can have the RED in your hand for the whole day: that is a heavy rig, going over 15 kilos, even when stripped bare.

Thx Pix2pixel,

Do you need to really over-tighten the knob in order to keep the hand grip fixed at an angle? I can't really visualize how a little friction clamp can be strong enough to hold the strong torque of the hand grip, while at the same time being easily adjustable on the field.

All seem to be tighten normal, though you should have an Allen key as there is another screw to adjust. You'll be surprised how light the camera feels.

Just got my rig in today...on Saturday. Thanks to pix2pixels for the heads-up!!!

This has to be one of the best deals around. Very solid and well-engineered.

I have yet to play with all the configurations, but once I can find some grips for it. I think it will be great. Lots of options. The standard configuration is awkward, but as shown by others it's not that hard to find a number of new layouts.

I also find it hard to believe that there hasn't been a run on these. The guy I bought it from has only had a couple sales of late. I got mine, with the shoulder mount, a tripod plate an d8 extra bolts for $260. Can't beat that.

I'm also impressed with how well machined everything seems. Easy to tighten. Grips good, etc.

This will do until I'm done designing my vDSLR rig:)

Best,

Jason

NOTE: Dropped my GH1 last night and crushed the lens ring on the front :( Probably wouldn't have happened had a had it mounted on this rig.

I used some rubber handles I bought from a shop selling scooters and rollerblades. They fit great. I would get a mounting plate for the camera, or get some rubber as it slips a little bit.

Sorry to hear about your camera

Thanks. I think the lens is going to work for now, but I haven't tested it yet to see if the autofocus, etc. are still intact. It seems OK, at first glance, which is amazing considering it fell from a high-bar table straight down onto a granite floor and landed directly on the rim. I'm crossing my fingers :)

Great to know about the scooter handles and yes, I suppose some slipping will occur, so I will address that..most likely with a manfrotto plate so that I can go from gunstock, to tripod to monopod, to shoulder mount :) ...looks like I will need to buy a few more bases :)

thanks again,

Jason

Great find! Three questions:

How much does this cost?

Where can I buy one?

And I wanna use it with a 7D, should be ok, yeah?

I'm not sure if I'm supposed to be posting links to ebay, because I haven't been around here for a long time. So look up gini.1980. Just put that in the search and up will pop all kinds of listings from him/her.

DSL-777 is the closest to what I purchased. Mine didn't have the high-riser and had dual rods to the shoulder mount, but everything else looks the same.

the funny thing is the prices seem inconsistent. I think the buy it now for mine was $450...(i'd have to look it up to be sure) and I offered $100 then won it. I also ordered and extra mount for the tripod as well as some knobs for experimental purposes and then he combined all items and cut my shipping. I think I paid $260 total. Great pricing.

Now, it seems that something like the DSL-777 is BUY IT NOW for $200, plus shipping. Shipping is expensive, but mine came in 8 days and delivered on Saturday (today).

All I can say is that I'm going to order a few more items to make another rig as well. The quality seems pretty good to me. Might not be quite Zacuto, but for half price (or less) i'm happy until I get my own (completely different) DSLR rig out of development ;)

Good luck.

Jason

I can see no reason why it won't work with the 7d. I'm going to see my friend with the Mark 5 (nearly the same size) in a couple of days, but I can't imagine why it wouldn't work. I have a 7d coming in one of these days so I hope that it works. I definitely would get the high-rise camera mount. The standard works, but just looks like it would make things easier.
