WOW: my new shoulder mount with rod support

:smile:lego..
and your finger thumb will hurt after play it for hours

dont forget to order a camera base plate, i just order it and wait for next week,
i thought the rig already have it

that's the camera plate they have, no quick release, i ordered that one

but i think we can have a quick release from tripod plate

the camera always stay in the rig, for me that's the main purpose to set the rig

Did you go with 1/2" ID or 5/8" ID foam to fit the 15mm bars? Thanks for the pics BTW...I'm getting pretty excited to get mine in.

Hey Insanityfw,

What is the name of the stock pictured in your album?

Thanks

Would you recommend the Bush Hawk over a monopod?

Different animals really. The monopod will be more stable to a degree, but for getting quick handheld style the bushawk has a great feel.

If you're doing zooms the monopod is a lot more stable. I wish I could post some of my footage that I shoot with monopod, but I don't have any readily available. The monopod is really like having a very quickly movable tripod with a bit of extra movement to it.

Here's some video shot entirely with the bush hawk. Not great video in a bar with very, very low light, but you get the idea. A few of the shots have good movement.

This was one of my first time shooting with the GH1 and the first time using the bush hawk.

Thanks for sharing that clip. Very smooth for handheld footage.

Does the Bush Hawk allow convenient monitoring by a Loupe?
(Sorry for all the questions. My last purchase was uninformed.)

Thanks. I was fumbling around some and experimenting with manual/auto settings, but most of it is "smooth enough" :)

I added a couple of pics of the Bush Hawk in a position to represent how you might use it with a Hoodman/Zfinder (I need one, but have yet to order it)....

I will probably use it on the Bush Hawk from time to time, but mostly I will use a configuration of the gini-rig, which would be more comfortable...until I get my own rig designed and built that is:)

I know money is tight for most people, but having a couple of different solutions could be real handy...depending on your usage of course.

Best,

J.

Just got my Gini rig in and I must say the build quality is much better than I expected. I got the Eva foam tubes mounted (1/2" ID is tight but that's really what you want). First time I've ever played with a rails system...beginning to really like it.

I have wireless mic receivers (Lectosonic CR187s) to figure out. I'm even considering a hunter's vest with velcro. Would welcome any suggestions. I couldn't really imagine a way to mount the receiver to the Gini rig but I'm a total noob at this rails thing.

No trouble mounting the quick release plate on the bottom of the Gini rig and no major problems mounting the 7D to the top plate. The whole rig balances nicely on the tripod. I mount my Edirol HR09 audio recorder to the camera's hot shoe.

All in all...4 stars and a snap for the Gini Rig.

I'm dense, would someone please post a link to the specific "Eva foam tubes" discussed in the thread. I just don't seem to find the resource in the thread. Thank you very much.

John

Hey John. This is what I'm using...or similar. I have a couple different colors. (see my photobucket a few posts up)

http://cgi.ebay.com/4-MOOSESKIN-ROD...emQQptZLH_DefaultDomain_0?hash=item4a9a3d2982

Keep in mind that it's hard to work on the 1/2" (like mhood mentioned)....takes some time and muscle, but when it's on, it's on nicely.

Also, you can cut pieces to cover other parts of the rig just to create more surfaces to grad onto.

Best,

J.

Wd-40?

Wd-40?

Have you tried WD-40?
As kids we used to put on new grips on our bikes and would spray wd-40 on the handle bars and slide the grips on.. it would then dissipate and be on the bike rock solid :-)

Wow, thanks Maestro, great idea! I completely forgot about the old BMX days. I used to go through handlebars on a monthly basis :) ...never was that good of a rider :)

I will give it a try the next time, I mount them. We used to just use water sometimes as well, to no ill-effect.

thanks,

J.
