OK. I just put some pictures in a gallery on .me for the first time let's see if this works.

I have the gini.1980 kit and some more parts coming as well. I am actually in development on a completely different type of pro-sumer rig for supporting/stabilizing the new crop of vDSLR's, but in the meantime I still need to shoot, so I am very happy with this configuration. Gives me lots of options and allows me to move quickly, which is important for what I shoot.

With this setup, I can go from Shoulder Rig to Gunstock, to Monopod to Tripod in any order at any time. In the case of going to monopod or tripod I can leave the camera on the gini rig. Very functional in my opinion...and I have a stabilizer vest/arm that might balance nicely if I leave the camera on the shoulder rig.

I haven't played with it much, but going directly from the Shoulder Support with the entire rig onto the monopod seems to actually work pretty well. It adds a nice bit of weight that works well with the movement on the head ...I'm sure it would be good on my 503 tripod setup. I will be trying it out next shoot.

If people are interested here is what my kit is:

1. Gini.1980 rod and shoulder support for DSLR (I have dense foam grips on the way) Also, I added another tripod adapter plate from gini as well, which is what gives it the functionality
2. 3x manfrotto 577 rapid connector adapters with sliding plates
3. Manfrotto 685 monopod
4. 3126 Manfrotto head for monopod
5. BushHawk gunstock
6. Bogen 503 head and tripod

I think that's it. I hope you enjoy the concept.

Best,

J.

thx

as far as I can see there is one problem:

You simply can't put it on the shoulder and look straigt through a viewfinder like with the Zacuto gear:

this is my handheld gini rig, easy control to record button, space for future FF, I dont have camera base plate yet, so i use a tripod plate for camera

it's so light, handheld shot is more steady now

here's a quick pic

I upgrade my photobucket to show how I would use it with the zfinder. You can adjust it many ways. I also have more parts coming in to allow me even more flexibility.

Don't get confused, this stuff is nice, but it's not Zacuto. If you can afford Zacuto then get Zacuto. I think the verdict is that only your pocketbook will be sorry.

But if you're like me and could only afford a Zacuto "compromise rig" then.......

i think with GH1 you dont need a shoulder rig

Body pad is much better

Depends on what and how you shoot. YOU don't think you need a shoulder rig for a GH1, but others will....and then others wont.

I don't think having one type of support for a camera makes sense. I have the shoulder rig, the gunstock, the monopod, the tripod and a vest stabilizer. I feel covered that way. Matter of personal taste.

There's no question, however, that the vDSLR's need some kind of support. They're just to prone to jitters when not supported.

Now, I see the pictures. I like it a lot. Now, I have will have 6 different ways to support my camera :)

absolutly GREAT!
I have been looking all over the web for the last couple of weeks and months for a decent rig for my upcoming 7D and this is absolutly mindblowing. Especially if you know Zacuto prices. This Gini guy simply has no budget for a decent website or webvideo or a Bloom.

I ordered two units:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=180417683805
(because decent parts, especially the shoulder thing and the adjustable baseplate (for hight of the cam)
and:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ROD-HANDLE-BODY...ViewItemQQptZFilm_Cameras?hash=item2a01c187a2

I guess with these two rigs I can rebuild every Zacuto Gorilla Kit. Even though some things might not be as good as the their gear... BUT cmon... I mean charging 2200.- for the Zacuto Marksmen - that isn't OK at all.

anyway... keep your pics of your setups coming.
can't wait to build my own.

I have the first ebay item you posted coming in as well. Didn't see the second one, but it looks like something that can be done with my exisiting setup and a tripod plate, which is really cool. When you get the parts in your realize you can really get creative configuring them.

My thinking is that a couple of "stock" setups and a couple of extra parts and it'll be like the ultimate lego kit ...but for adults :)

I'll post pics when the new stuff comes in.

A quick update before the Manfrotto plates will come:

Nice. See what you've started? :)

I can't wait to get the dense foam tubing in so I can pad my handles. I bought the foam that goes on fly fishing rods and we'll see how that goes.

thanks again for getting this whole thing going.

LEGO - :)
Hopefully I love these rigs as much as I loved my Lego.
Lucky me that the USD is so weak right now.

Totally I will pay around 300-400 EUR for both of my rigs and thats godamn cheap. I mean look at the Rapid Fire from Zacuto. This thing costs 560USD and compared to the possibilities I have with my rigs it's simply a joke.

Now I need to get my hands on a follow focus... been looking around all over the web... the good ones are too expensive and the cheap ones actually look cheap,

I will also post pics when my stuff arrived but I think this will take some weeks to arrive.

well...maybe not as much as Lego's, because I sure like playing with my kids' :)

I think what's amazing is that the first rig I have works well as is, but like you said having a couple give so many options.

It took 8 days to get to me from my first auction. Not workdays, but days.

Best,

J.

If you are shooting by yourself without a focus puller, a FF is not necessarily very useful. It can help, but a focus handle similar to one designed by Hasselblad with a focus marks ring visible from the operator's side could work very nice.

I have on my desk a cheap ($2) magnifying glass with a handle that can be adapted as focus collar for any lens, as they come in various sizes.
