uh... I thought he did it with the dvx manual focus. but if there is a way to do it with a program- how? can you do that with final cut pro? or is it AE?
man, I just thought he did a quick rack focus. it's not that hard mind you. and the dvx100 DOES have an impressive rack focus.

Although I have experimented with the rack focus in Macro mode and you can obtain similar results. Haven't tried in a shower, but I have been pleased with the DOF in that mode.

I'm thinking it can be done. You know those public showers; shower nobs all close together and all. Well, at least in prison they were.

I mean, no, wait.

I would say that the shower shot was actual manual focus in the camera... something about the feel of how the focus moves makes me think that...

Yeah, gomboy, I wouldn't rely on trying to throw focus or get crazy focus effects in post entirely... it's still always better if you're able to do it in camera... the post will always look a little different... and in my opinion, not quite as good...

There is no way the dvx can do that dof in real time - can it ? - I have a hunch - that it is post but - It could be that, he tweaked most of what he was trying to acheive - I have seen some pretty good demos of rack focus / de focus plug's out there - that shot is not that far off from what can be done.
I guess you have to get very intimate & intricut with your nle  :p

Elvis... I betcha your right.. or some old DP emailed him telling him that he was a lawyer and to shut it down or he would sue him... heh heh just to get rid of him for awhile.

There is no way the camera did all of those rack focuses. Camera does not have the sensitive of a lens. The work was done in post. There is a barrage of effects for rack focusing, bluring, film flashes and all the hoopla seen on the video. The kid is good at the shot composition, editing, and good use of his effects w/o killing the feel. The color correction was very well done that gave the footage more of a film look than anything I've done or seen done with the DVX. The moral of this story is to Study. Don't be afraid to ask questions of people who most of the time are flattered to answer questions and help. If you get pissed at this kid for being good, then you not only cut him off as a resource, but you also wont learn how he did what he did, which is the exact reason you got mad at him, You don't know how to do some of his stuff. THe kid likes to answer questions. Email him and lets start crankin out even better footage the I know we all can do. Don't throw in the towl. Im not to familiar with UV filters. booggerg had said he has the same one as matt. What is the main purpose of a UV filter and how did it contribute, if at all, to the look of this video?
Where is the best place to get one?

A UV filter is for cutting UV rays and is generally used for lens protection if nothing else. It can have a very slight warming effect (because it cuts blue) but you wouldn't know it to look through the filter with the naked eye.

The shower scene apparently is in camera and from a GL2. I'm the kids agent now. :D
