C300: Will Canon drop the C300 Mark II Price in the near future?

A 5" touchscreen/DPAF combo on a new Canon cinema camera would be the best thing in the world.

I was discussing the Ursa Mini Pro today with the producer of the documentary I am shooting. We both love the images and the ergonomics look pretty good. It's just the topping at at ISO 1600 that kills it for us. We did a shoot in a VERY dark jazz club in Rio a few weeks ago, it was just a quick pop in because it had historical significance to our story. No way to light it and it was what it was. With the Ursa Mini Pro, we would have nothing. With the C100, I cranked the ISO up to 6400 and the footage, while doesn't look "good", looks usable. BMD needs to work on an Ursa Mini Pro II with the same kind of ISO capability as the C300 MKII. It will then be a pretty amazing little camera and I would heavily consider buying it.

I am kind of surprised that no one has made an affordable sub-4K (meaning, a 2560x1440 type) full frame BSI low light monster.

In fairness, a video-crippled A99II gets a great low light performance with its BSI 42 MPX full frame sensor. Will Sony sell it to a third party OEM?? Stay tuned for the NAB'19.

That's why it will never be a proper doc camera (for me anyway). Not flexible enough. Imagine having to say to the producer and director ''no no..we can't shot there with our camera...it's too dark. You need a camera like the C300, FS7 or a A7 for that''

I know, it's funny that a good portion of the BMD website highlights how the UMP is "great for documentaries", yet they kind of gloss over the fact that ISO 1600 os not nearly enough for most interior or night documentary situations. Marketing over substance.

Yep! They'll need to do more than adding ND's (though it's a good start) for it to be a proper doc camera.

Or you could use a UMP to shoot part of a doc, and a A7sII or something for the night and low-light scenes. Sure, I'd rather stick to one camera, but considering the different environments, perfect image matching is perhaps less crucial.

I'm still hoping to see some field reports from people who've hauled the UMP though a few months of heavy use. Anyone know of anyone?

It hasn't been out that long. The announcement was a few weeks prior to the NAB'17.

But there is a bunch of YouTube clips.

The UMP sensor is old. It's the same one from the 4.6K announced in April 2015 and was probably worked on before that for a year or two. Not to say it's not a decent camera in the right circumstances, but it's not a new development. Anyone interested in the cam should go to BMCuser or the official BM forum. LOTS of info...a lot of those guys refuse to shoot on anything else but a BM camera and some have experience with a lot of different systems, so you'll get a nice mixture of feedback.

I know. :-) So I'm still waiting for some independent reports... The YouTube videos that I've come across haven't wowed me with their authority. Perhaps I've just seen the wrong ones.

But a doc being a doc, you never know what's going to happen. Let's say you are shooting outside and you are following the subject that goes inside in a relatively dark room...what do you do? Change camera? I don't think so.

When the price drops to $9999.00 I'll most likely get one. One way to predict a price drop is for me to buy one now, because as soon as I buy anything the price drops the next day.

Sure, but it depends on the kind of doc...

Dang... I thought I edited my comment there to add a little context. I guess I made a goof and didn't save my changes. Thanks for not going all apoplectic after reading my short remark. :-)

I'm done with the C300 body style. We have a MKi and the handle and LCD/Audio placement is just annoying. I like the image but C log tends to have a green push that is easily fixed but annoying. I hope to see the C700 body replace the bowling ball camera in the future. I just got word today that Panasonic is bringing over a VariCam LT for use to check out and leaving it for a few days. Looking forward to trying it out. Big step up from the C300 MKI.
