C200: Why does everyone think the C200 doesn't have TC output?

I don’t have an answer to your first question - I haven’t used my mix pre as an audio input device for my computer yet. I have only transferred files from mix pre to hard drive over usb so far.

2) you are probably right about how the Mix. Pre handles TC . I went back and checked some audio files and the TC seems embedded in metadata..

The weak link seems to be the C200. Yes it has time code, but there is no way to incorporate external time code in some way that will replace the internally generated code.

Yep, it will be treated the same as my XT-3 with the Tentacles. Not a big deal though and it will be nice to have matching TC between all three of my devices for a little extra work and money.

Canon “should have “ had a a time code input on the C200, but you can handle it the same way as your XT3. It is really nice to have timecode sync between double system audio and camera. Yesterday I was shooting a pickup on a doc for a friend and had a couple of characters Lav’ed & feeding the Mixpre, a camera mic for decent reference sound and tentacles syncing both. The editorial side of that will be super easy to sync.

Buckling down into integrating the Sound Devices Mix-Pre 3 into my workflow with both the XT-3 and my C200.

I'm looking at an XT-3 workflow. I'm curious, do you rig your XT-3 with the Mix-Pre 3? Or is it always for interview situations where it's off the camera? It looks a little bulky to rig.

The idea will be when shooting interviews, use the XT-3 with the battery grip, mounted on top of the Mix Pre 3 on tripod, triggering the Mix Pre 3 to record with the XT-3 using the HDMI, the audio and video clips will share the same TC and stop/start points. When shooting off tripod, the XT-3 is on gimbal with a Tentacle Sync E hot shoe mounted, the other Tentacle Sync serving as TC master, feeding TC into the Mix Pre 3 that will be in a bag with either my producing partner using it or if I am shooting alone, setting the Mix Pre 3 recording and I leave it and go cruise around with the XT-3 on gimbal. Kind of the best of both worlds. Whenever I am adding the C200 to the mix or another XT-3, I added a third Tentacle Sync E to the package.

One thing I’ve found really useful with my mix pre 6 is the Wingman app. Just plug in the BT chupchick (BT module) into the mixer and pair with the phone and wingman app. YOu can see mixers levels on the app in the phone at a distance and also start stop recording . THis feature has been indispensable at times for me. In the scenario where I had a number of wireless plugged into the mixer plus a board feed at an event with the mixer stationed near the board , I was able to move all around the performance space and still check in on the mixer and levels remotely. THat was pretty sweet.

I've downloaded it but have been too busy shooting to play with it. But I will next week!

I shoot alone all the time. For shoots I have to be mobile for, I may consider is wearing the Mix Pre 3 on my waist and wirelessly transmitting via Bluetooth APTX-LL to my camera on the gimbal. Syncing is no big deal in FCP X, but adds an additional workflow element for getting transcriptions. And doing quick edits. In a pinch I can use the Bluetooth audio. Thinking about shooting with an SLR again has me reliving the old Canon 7D days. Complicated, but I'm digging shooting on the gimbal for certain kinds of shoots.
