Why did they take away the Time lapse feature on the DVX100B?

Hello all,

Can anyone tell me why the DVX100B with all it's new improvements over the other two versions, does not have the interval record feature for time lapse? The older cams had it, but the "B" cam only has that one shot option. Thats fine if you intend to go work for Ardman studios but why remove a great feature on a cam with 20 odd improvements over its predecessors?

I don't know why they took that feature off. I do know that that type of interval recording on a DVX was said to be very hard on the tape transport mechanisms. A lot of people decided to use digital still cameras with intervalometers instead.

The 100B had an "enhanced, more robust" tape transport that traded away the time lapse feature.
The 100A also has a better/sharper LCD screen.
Hope this helps.

It had to do with the revised tape transport and the room needed to allow the better-than-90º tilt out of the LCD screen. In order to fit those two things in, the time lapse feature had to go.

Time lapse is, in a sense, fast motion. One workaround is to shoot at normal speed, and then speed the footage up in post. It's a few more steps, but it also gives you a lot more control over the final look.
