Why can't my F3 do this?

Sounds good. Looking forward to seeing and hearing more about this. Hoping you get a new video up soon showing the performance more clearly.

While it is a huge boon to be able to expand the focusing range of still lenses this way (I did it for a few years with the Zeiss ZE's and Tokina zooms on my Preston), and it's great to have remote control of the iris, 1/4 stop increments is not enough to truly pull iris steplessly thus I'd be hesitant to describe that your unit transforms EF lenses into "true cine glass". Close, but not quite. Most of your potential customers will be satisfied in any event. Best of luck with the rollout!

Thank you for the kind words- much appreciated....
That's true unfortunately we can't change the way the lenses are produced.
We can however do some things Preston can't and never will. Like image stabilisation(and more slick tricks) So, in a way we turn still glass into "uber" cine lenses:beer:

And your dreams come true sometimes:)

I guess they really do! Count me in for one when you've got the Nikon version sorted Jacek. Are the marking rings removable? (would be great to just mark one up for each lens and then interchange them with the lens for a faster setup.

Thank you!!!
Yes the marking rings are easily removable/swapable.
They are also backlit for the night work

Jacek,

I think this is fantastic to be able to control my still lenses, and especially excited about the potential to activate image stabilization (VR). Also, having a long throw for focus compard to the lens will be really nice. Definitely want one once you have the Nikon version going.

Thank you Jon,
We have very good prospects with the new F5/F55 camera line- this technology is a perfect match...
And it happens to be the same mount...

We all waited on Birger to long... honestly I think the user base for the F3 is to small for an other company to pick up the ball and give us true Nikon or Canon control on the F3.

I don't think market size has much to do with it. In the pro-arena (as you all know) the "NEED" becomes the priority. Provide a solution that nobody else can provide then you can justify the price to cover the "lack" of market size.

Looks good, Jacek. A couple of questions:

1) What's the "dongle" hanging off of the adaptor for?

2) If the answer to the above is "Power" - any chance that the shipping version (or a later version) could get power from the camera - like some (not all) of the competing solutions are doing?

Thanks!

The dongle is for power and data from OptiTron controller.
Once we release the wireless receiver you'll have options to power the receiver/ProLock-i mount from any source you choose.
Come to think of it if you just need iris control we put buttons for that on the mount itself.
So you could just power the mount thru the dongle and have iris control on lenses without OptiTron.
You could not tell the stop with that setup however.

Jacek,

Is it even technically possible to get image stabilization added to a Nikon adapter?

Re: the new adapter displayed here:

- I assume this still can't help the fact that the Canon zooms are not even close to par focal.

- Do you plan to make a Nikon version?

Lenny,
Yes it is possible (VR).
The Canon lenses are parfocal if adjusted correctly just like Nikon.
Yes we are planning Nikon version next once the dust settles with the Canon...

For my money Jacek, just a simple adapter that activated Nikon lens VR would sell like hotcakes. Not everyone needs or wants to spend a lot for a remote follow focus for the Nikon lenses, but tons of people use them on the F3 and the biggest disadvantage of the F3 vs the Canon or an EX-1/EX-3 for any handheld is the lack of VR. I know a number of guys who shoot docs for whom Image stabilization on the Canon was the main deciding factor. I'd like to see it as an upgrade to the current adapter.

+1 Also I wrote to Jacek that control of focus alone, even without iris would be the next most valuable thing in my opinion. Just to have VR would be fantastic, especially with longer lenses like the 70-200 VR.

The IS activation and iris control is built into the Canon ProLock-i mount.
I'm pretty sure that the Nikon will have VR included in the mount...
But trust me , once you've tried the OptiTron- you don't go back to mechanical FF.
This technology is addictive....:Drogar-BigGrin(DBG)
