I agree. Problem: They didn't send us to a site. Another problem: the guy releasing the first video, isn't even with them....it's just some guy's work he likes. So...the web traffic thing, although it could be an angle....(and maybe they're just too dumb to know that you should have a SITE to drive people to...before you pull a stunt like this....)....too much is too poorly done for this to have been "the plan". (Not that this validates it at all)

I also agree that ticking off a bunch of geeks doesn't seem like a very good plan.

Another thing....why have the 1/11/11 launch at all? If this is a big hoax (which is fine)...1/1/11....seems (again) like a REALLY dumb thing to do....seeing as there will be NO-ONE around for the 1/11/11 launch, because your hoax burned out all at once.

....and if you were going to milk this thing....why have a launch date so soon? I see some stuff that doesn't add up for this to be real.....but I also see some stuff that doesn't add up for it to NOT be real. I'm just glad that it's over in 19 hours. (I'm know it's already over for many of you...)
 
he had camera with him ,we could of asked him to turn off/on 550D in front of us to see if it really goes to the black firmware menu instead of regular canon menus,case would be closed immediately then.
But there was no cooperation between chat users at all.
There was a lot of diferent ways to check if its real during conference but too many peoples were overexcited with their questions instead of nailing him with real questions about actual resolution and aspect ratio because these two dont match from what he said.

It's not much...and I'm sure no-one will be surprised...but..I know FOR A FACT:

The guy who is supposed to receive it early, to shoot video and post it: He has NOT received it as of now. So....time will tell more...but....for now: Smells even more like a HOAX. I'll ask for an update...but for now. Not good news. (Not surprising to anyone here...but...this is the latest)
 
Why do people keep commenting? This is fake and realer there is not point for this on these forums. I would ask a mod to please lock this thread so we can continue back to the regular forums

The fat lady will sing soon enough. No one is holding their breath. This thread was only opened at 8:15 one day ago...no-one is going to die if it's open for several more days. I'm sure they'll close it if they feel the need....but don't feel obligated to read ....because you're not. Lots of cool things happening here all day every day. :) Enjoy!

So the question remains, what is this guy's end goal? Just the satisfaction of getting people's hopes up briefly? Perhaps even getting some people to download some fake firmware? Or, does the New Year's Day launch get scrubbed in favor of a "paid version?" Or better yet, the T2i gets delayed to the wondrous Jan. 11 launch date!

I couldn't sit through more than a few minutes of the Ustream thing before vomiting (I jest) and leaving. He was so obviously a sleaze bag.

I'm fascinated by it all the same. This is like watching a fledgling start up cult beginning. First the "leader" or "face" of the cult makes some flashy trailer, teases people with a view of a "firmware menu" and promises more goodness in the coming days and weeks! I wonder if this is just a psychology school project, or master's thesis. :cheesy:
 
If it's a hoax or not, waiting a couple more hours won't kill anyone. *I think:undecided*

What I still don't get is, why waste this hack only in those 3 resolutions? Seems painful to record without live view for just some seconds of footage.

Why not use this hack to provide everyone with real 1080p, this would eliminate moire, aliasing and the loss of image detail. I believe this is more than useful and people would be pretty happy about it, at least I would.
 
Heads up for those thinking that the wait is only until 4:00pm EST. That is NOT TRUE at this stage. I have been in contact with that YouTube user (the one who is supposed to post the demo video early). He DOES NOT have the firmware at this stage. It was never sent to him...and frankly he is as worried as the rest of us (only worse, because his name will be dragged through the mud) that this was/is in fact a HOAX. So....how can a video be posted on HIS CHANNEL...when he doesn't even have the firmware? (Likely the one that doesn't exist)

So....you will not see a video (in 4k, 3k, 2k) from him at 4EST....because he doesn't have the firmware.

So....if you are looking for "the fat lady to sing"....it will be as they directed 1/1/11 11:11EST, on their YouTube channel.

Honestly....if you are curious, no biggie. If you are holding your breath....do yourself a favor and just breath. At this stage THE FACT that the purported video to be released at 4pm...and the person to do it: 1 - Doesn't have it.....2 - Hasn't heard from them for a long while.....3 - Has taken down the video that even talks about 4K video. These are all FACTS that point at straight up HOAX.

EITHER WAY....I can tell you that you are NOT WAITING until 4EST for a video from the supposed YouTube user....you'll be waiting until 11:11 tonight. AGAIN...don't hold your breath.

People ARE holding their breaths.... Point of that matter is, these forums should not support rumors let alone ones that we know are 100% fake. As someone who loves their art and comes here for informative information we should always be kept clear of the nonsense.

Once we all figured out that this was a fake a Mod should have came in and locked the thread. There's no reason for this to continue as this is simply not possibly with these cameras.

This is so pathetic and i knew from the start , i wanted to write yesterday that they will say "canon paid us so now you wont get it" or some bulls**t like that .
But anyway ,its bizzare how many guys bought those lies.
So i was 100% right in my first post in this thread,no surprise.
