Who loves their HPX370?

That's strange, I could have sworn I've flown all over the world with my 370 as carry-on, even commuter jets. Let me think....... yes, I have flown at least to Africa, Europe, and Latin America (and all over the U.S.) with my 370 as carry-on. :-)

That's more like it. Even if the camera is pretty tough, I really wouldn't want to submit it as luggage, but you will need a compact bag or else the only overhead it will fit into is in first class.

I would rent the 370 before you buy. The C-Mos sensor is not like a CCD camera.
Yeah, it means you should avoid panning the camera very fast, especially when you have the shutter speed set high (like 1/250th, 1/500th) and shooting progressive, or else you'll get a whole bunch of unwanted effects. Because of this, it should be treated more like a film camera than a video camera, one advantage that the 500 has over the 370.

The Porta Brace bag that PB recommends for the 370 is long enough to accommodate a matte box
mounted on the camera, and to keep the battery mounted. What I do is use a slightly smaller PB case that I own for a JVC HD-110, which the 370 fits in, although a little snugly, and pack other gear in the larger PB case, which goes as luggage. When I get to the location, I switch cases and use the bigger case for the camera during the shoot, then switch back for the return flight. The camera and batteries fit the smaller case just fine, but it's nice to have the added space when on a shoot.

Smart way to go about it. I like a slightly larger PB case for my cams as I can put lots more in there for smaller shoots when I don't need ALL MY gear.
Batteries, Power, Cords, Mics. P2's, Headphones.

Really? What do you put it in?

I think the JVC Porta Brace bag is the CTC-2, not sure about the bigger, 370 bag (it's whatever PB recommended for that camera). If I know I'm only going to be on a big jet, I've carried the big bag on too.

Spent Sunday out in the mountains with our 370; transported up via snow-machine, spent 3 hours shooting a Search And Rescue exercise both handheld and on sticks. Bright sunny day, snow, all the light you could want, but with lots of contrast. The camera performed great.

Was shooting mostly SD DV (480i60), though I did switch the camera over to DVCPRO-HD 1080p30 for some shots when the Coast Guard helicopter came to pick up a "victim":
Other than a bit of water on the lens (prop wash from a MH-60 Jayhawk is powerful!), I couldn't be happier with the footage.

Was out in the field for about 4 hours total; used about 20GB, and half of a IDX Endura E-7 (small) battery.

LOve my 370. First: its a world cam, any format you need. Second, full raster 1080 AVC I 100- can't beat that. Third with some modest audio hacks which I have described, you can really get 4 useful channels of audio. Four- the 370is a well balanced, low power consumption, documentary camera BEAST especially with the FUJI wide angle lens.
