Where to buy the HVX: a small guide.

Denwa, the description of that eBay auction is exactly what most scammers use.

One HVX200 package currently on eBay is advertised as a $8000 value that includes a wireless mike, video light, tripod and other items, all of which are utter crap -- the tabletop tripod for instance will surely collapse under the camera's weight, and the compact camera case won't fit the camera.

Worse, this supposed $8000 package doesn't include any P2 cards, only five MiniDV tapes.

Yeah, I know the "extra's" are crap. The sellers seem legit though since they have 14,000 reviews.

They do seem grey market to me, though I have heard of people getting grey market stuff from videocorp on ebay and still getting a US warranty.

I'd feel a lot better about putting out $5000 on a hvx if the damn rebates applied in Canada. And it would be real nice if Panny brought back the p2 card rebate instead of the battery pack rebate.

I just finished using my new HVX-200 for a shoot over the weekend and have to say I'm impressed.

I bought mine from Omega Broadcast out of Austin, Texas and found them to be very helpful and the best price around. I was able to buy a demo model with a 4 year extended warranty, for $3995. The camera was used only for demonstration purposes at some trade shows, so it was virtually new. They have new ones as well and b stock cameras that are basically refurbished by Panasonic and still sold with a warranty.

Talk to Danielle, she was great in getting the camera to me on time and worked through some minor shipping problems that came up last minute at the Canadian border.

Omega is a real store that hosts all sorts of seminars and supplies people in the industry with good gear. I highly recommend them to work with.

They have 16 gb cards as well.

They must have them back in stock! I just got mine from AVS Thursday! I initially wrote to them, told them I was a DVXuser.com forum member and asked when they would have the HVX200 back in stock. Barbara Lange wrote back, said they had some, and took care of everything. Including shipping to Arizona, it was just under $4840.

I ended up picking the package up at a postbox service just south of Trail,BC and it worked fine, but that was more a result of timing than necessity. Fedex will deliver to your door for about $140 including broker fees but not Canadian taxes. I still saved over $1500 when all was said and done. Danielle is awesome to work with. Just mention you talked to me and she'll set you up. The have lots of demo gear available as well.

Good Luck,

This is meant as mini-guide for anyone looking at wanting to buy an HVX.
It is similar to this excellent sticky post.

Buying an HVX is a big investment for most, so the pursuit to buy it at the lowest cost is very tempting. Unfortunately "lowest cost" doesn't always mean "best deal" or even "lowest end-cost".
When checking pricing of a particular product we often resort to online searches, like google, or price listing/comparing sites. Unfortunately those sites collect revenue from advertisers, and those advertisers aren't always "good companies".

- A good company will provide help in selecting the right product with you with knowledgable staff, and sell top notch, new equipment, and stand behind its products; will aid when there are problems, and will offer other, good customer support.
- A bad company will take as much money they can from you, and once they have sent you the product, they do not want to hear from you again, unless it is to sell you something else. Good customer support costs money, so it is not offered by a bad company.
- A really bad company will take your money and not deliver the goods you are expecting, or not deliver any goods at all.

Okay, as far as the Panasonic AG-HVX200 is concerned. Current retail price is $5995.00 USD. That's as much as you should be paying, although many reputable companies are now discounting that price by as much as $800 to $1250.

You have three choices:

1)
The BEST, and most recommended place to buy an HVX is from an authorized dealer. These dealers are authorized by Panasonic, and this should be a safe and simple transaction, and one that you shouldn't have any problems with. If a problem arises, you will get good support as you will have purchased from a company that stands behind its products. Any warranty issues will be swiftly dealt with. The HVX will come with all current Panasonic USA rebates, special offers, promotions, etc.
Expect to pay about $4800.00 to $5500.00

2)
Greymarket. This is a tricky and far more risky deal. You will get a BRAND NEW HVX, but one that was IMPORTED from overseas into the USA by the company that is selling it to you, not one that was imported by Panasonic USA. Although this HVX will come with ALL accessories and is made to the exact same standard as the HVX mentioned above, it will most likely NOT include rebates, special offers, etc. The warranty will be VERY VERY limited, maybe not applicable at all. So if the cam goes wrong, you might find you have to pay FULL PRICE to have it fixed.
There are some very decent companies that are selling greymarket products. The decent ones should be ones that TELL YOU that it is greymarket. They might tell you by stating that it was "imported". Make sure that manuals are in English too.
Expect to pay about $3900.00 to $5000.00
BUYER BEWARE OF RISKS!

3)
Scams. These are just about ALL HVXs that are offered for $3500 or lower. Many will see an HVX advertised for as low as $1800 and think "GREAT!" they can save money. However, this cam simply can't be sold for that amount. If it were sold for $1800 the company would be LOSING money and will go bankrupt. There are NUMEROUS companies that use a tactic of luring you into their website (which look legitimate) and then get you to buy their products with a credit card. The scam they use is mostly one whereby they sell you a completely useless PRO KIT for far too much money, so that you spent more in the end than if you'd purchased from an Authorized Dealer. Alternatively they will state that the HVX won't come with ANY accessories, no battery, nothing; but they will sell you those things at an inflated price. if you were to decline the accessories, they'd simply turn around and tell you the cam is now out-of-stock. Many have reported that shipping costs are also INFLATED, costing you hundreds where it should cost $35.00.
Other scams include taking your credit card information, charging your credit card but not sending you any products at all.
BEST TO CHECK http://resellerratings.com if you are unsure of a company, and see for yourself what feedback the company is receiving.
Expect HVX to be advertised for $1500.00 to $3500.00 (although you will either end up paying more, or not getting anything at all)
DO NOT BUY FROM OR WASTE TIME WITH THESE COMPANIES. THESE COMPANIES ARE ONLY IN BUSINESS BECAUSE THEY FIND SOME GULLIBLE PEOPLE WHO BUY FROM THEM. DON'T FEED THEIR EVILNESS!

This post is USA biased. If you are wanting to buy a PAL HVX in the USA you can find them at B&H although they are selling at a slight premium at around $5500.00 USD.

Thank u so much for posting above information. please can u tell me where and how should i purchase

Given the demand of the 16GB cards, I thought many of you may like to know that we are accepting pre-orders on 32GB P2 cards. PM me if interested in pricing. ETA's are vague and best at this point.

Are there any companies that offer decent financing for purchasing these kinds of cameras? Or would a credit card be the best way to go? There's no way I can afford that number up front, but with the right deal, I can and would like to start piecing together my future. I've seen the Bill-Me-Later stuff, I bought my laptop that way, not sure I want to go through them again, its quite a high interest rate...any suggestions?

Own a house... home equity line of credit is the cheapest financing. Make certain, however, you actually have a viable business plan to pay back that HVX quickly.

Yeah I understand that...I'm working full-time now, with aspirations to go freelance in the future. My current job requires some shooting, so it will help with what I'm doing now, but its more for freelancing. Once I get it, I'll start doing side gigs and that sort of thing. Thats kind of my business plan...acquire/pay off my equipment while I have a steady source of income, start building clients/business, then branch off and see how I fare.

I can offer dvxuser customers who contact me directly 6 months interest free financing with our card:
http://www.fullcompass.com/prospass.php

Please contact me directly if interested before applying, as we only advertise 90 days at this point, and I will want to ensure you get the 6 months.

Add Zoommania to that list. A friend got his DVX100b from them for the advertised price, all the stuff was included in the box. even had the USA warranty.
