what is your all time favourite movie?

Rosetta (1999, Dardenne Brothers).

It's a great film. When I first watched it I could really relate to the character because I was also unemployed and had trouble looking for work. It had such a great level of visceral realism I had not seen before.

Casablanca - for the dueling-anthems scene, Watch am Rhine versus La Marseillaise. Still brings me to my feet, every time. The rest of the film is damned near perfect, too.

Yes. I like a lot of films, but Casablanca is one of the very few that can stop me in my tracks and make me sit down and watch it to the end from wherever I found it. Every time. Regardless of what else is going on. And the dueling anthems scene is film making at its most powerful. Holy cats, that's great film making!

Double Indemnity is another four star film -- especially the murder scene where the camera stays on Barbara Stanwyck's face. It's a short scene, but one of the most effective in all of film. Awesome film making and superb acting by one of the true greats.

Nobody has probably heard of this but I really like "The man who would be King" with
M Caine and S Connery.
No fancy effects, just a good story with good acting.
