what is your all time favourite movie?

Does it have great camera angles, a great storyline or is it just a good film?

My favourite film has to be Beetlejuice (director Tim Burton) it doesn't have the greatest special effects in the world, but I think it has humour to it and I find the darkness and gothic style to the film fantastic.

Labyrinth by Jim Henson, always been a favourite, if not my fave movie of all time. I also love The Goonies, The Dark Crystal, Blade Runner (who doesn't), The Witches/Witches (the one with Mr Bean in it), and this awesome movie called Monster Squad where these kids fight off a vampire, a werewolf and other weird things. Havnt seen it for years, its an 80's movie.

I think my All time favorite is "Raising Arizona", I have seen it 20 times and it still kills me. Then "Aliens" followed by "Predator"

City Slickers is one of mine.

I watched Con Air again just the other day for the umteenth time. Such a tight movie.

I watched Monster Squad again last year for the first time since I was a kid - great flick.

Is Monster Squad on DVD yet?

I can't pick ONE movie as my favorite, but here's my top 20 (in no particular order):

1) Blade Runner
2) Alien, Aliens, and Predator (I can't choose one of these over the other, and for some reason Predator just complements Aliens even though its not a sequel)
3) Saving Private Ryan
4) The Train
5) Heat
6) Casino & Goodfellas (a tie, they're both equally great)
7) The Lord of the Rings Trilogy
8) The Thing
9) Night of the Living Dead
10) 28 Days Later
11) Unbreakable
12) Ghost in the Shell & Ghost in the Shell 2 (another tie)
13) Lawrence of Arabia
14) Apocalypse Now
15) The Terminator
16) Akira Kurosawa's Dreams
17) Indiana Jones trilogy, especially Raiders of the Lost Ark
18) The Matrix
19) pretty much every film Stanley Kubrick made
20) The Bourne Trilogy

The Road Warrior

End of discussion, lock the thread. (Just kidding)

Good pick. The whole Mad Max trilogy is classic and will never be beat. All these copycat films like Book of Eli and Waterworld will never come close.

The only other film that touches on apocalyptic themes from the 80's era that I feel stands head-and-shoulders with the Mad Max films would be The Terminator.

"To Live and Die in L.A."

I can't seem to find anyone who likes it as much as I do. Please, somebody tell me I'm not the only one.

Others worth mentioning:
Fight Club
Barton Fink
Narc
THX 1138 (the original (before Lucas butchered it (as usual)))
Caddyshack

...Dude!!!!!!! You're not the only one...

Thank goodness.

I love everything about this film. The character development, the dialog, the insane chase sequence, the soundtrack and, of course, the totally non-Hollywood ending.

I read the old thread and I'm pleased someone else sees this as a great film. Someone besides me even likes the closing credits!! (I always watch 'em).

Check out Narc. Another gritty, real cop flick.

I've read your "pug life" many times- just "got it"

Apocalypse Now!

There are two shots in the film that just blew me away when I watched it. They continue to blow me away when I re-watch the film.

1st shot - a long trucking shot when Lance is on acid and witnessing the mayhem around him. He's silhouetted against the scene behind him. Distorted and warped circus music is playing in the background as people are shouting and screaming. The lighting and spot lights give an obscene and obscure impression of it being a circus. It's a brilliant single shot commentary of war and its affect on people. My jaw just dropped when I saw it, and I had to rewatch it several times to admire it.

2nd shot - the cameo Coppola makes when they land on the beach and one of them soldiers looks at Copolla and he screams at them "don't pay attention to the camera! keep running! keep going!"

I don't know why, but these two shots (within the brilliant masterpiece) are just incredible insights of artistic genius at work to me.

IMHO
