what is your all time favourite movie?

Don't think Monster Squad's on Dvd yet, hopefully bluray isn't
far away. Would love to see a cleaned up version with awesome sound.

"To live an die in L.A." rocks, I wonder how you think it stacks up with "Thief" (Michael Mann) or some others like
Thunderbolt and lighting
Charley Varrick
Friends of Eddie Coyle
Prime Cut
Straight Time

Sad to say, but I haven't seen any of those films except for T&L:embarasse which I saw recently.

Although a good film, T&L to me seemed like a typical '70s Eastwood flick.
I don't know if I'd put it in the same genre as To Live & Die in L.A.

You mentioned Michael Mann. He did Manhunter (also with William L. Petersen) which I think is another great film.

You did mean Thunderbolt & Lightfoot, didn't you?

Good catch, I have a copy of the film and I must have had a brainfreeze last night .
T and L is Michael Cimino's first film he directed before going on to "Deerhunter" and "HeavensGate"
I believe Cimino wrote one of the Dirty Harry films.

I owe it to myself to sit down & watch it. I've only had it on in the background while working. I know one thing: I really like the keyboard score, that's about all I can remember.

EDIT: Oh, it was Tangerine Dream, that's why. Yes, I need to watch this ASAP.

hell yeah to the mention of Straight Time, Lambert! Excellent movie.

here are my top 5:
Manhattan
Network
Day For Night
Scarecrow
Reds

I love Scarecrow, Pacino and Hackman, overlooked way to often. Eddie Bunkers "No beast so fierce" is a great read if you like "Straight Time".

Goodfellas is probably the best film ever made.

I don't think I could pick an actual favorite movie, though.

Donnie Darko, Mulholland Drive or Iron Giant, maybe?

:)

Network is awesome, and still extremely relevant today in relation to how out of control the news media has become.

Does it have great camera angles, a great storyline or is it just a good film?

My favourite film has to be Beetlejuice (director Tim Burton) it doesn't have the greatest special effects in the world, but I think it has humour to it and I find the darkness and gothic style to the film fantastic.
Not necessarily in this order, but some of my favorite films:
Back to the Future
Forrest Gump
Blade Runner
The Wizard of Oz
Creepshow
Robocop

For me, my interest in a film is usually for the sum of its parts: the acting, the music, direction, camera work and story. Sometimes a film may have a weakness in any of those elements, but its strengths may compensate for its flaws. For example, a great actor's performance can make up for a weak script. I don't like too much emphasis on special effects. Special effects should enhance the story, not be the story.
