What are you shooting?

Re: What are you shooting?

.....if everything works, i'm going to shoot my debut full length feature in august ::) (sure.. will keep you posted) -- what made me just recently think.. i find myself going out of the house with the same DVX in my bag.. to do very different missions.. one day it's the stuff to pay the bills.. the other day what known more as.. films, movies...

i went the other day to our local video dealers, who made an "open day".. where they show all their equipment, and try to sell something too. the DVX100A stood there, alongside with the SDX900, the new sony XDCAM, and some other 2/3" and 1/2" cameras. the DVX was the star. it was connected to a monitor like all the rest were (actually a smaller one).. all and all, producing the most kick ass images there. i was proud. :)
oh.. i also saw the Formatt Matte Box, just a Demo piece.. will cost here the ridicules price of €990 . . but it got absolutely nothing to do with this post :-/

Do anyone know if there is a kind of protecting 'bag' that can hold the camera against all kind of danger when shooting?[/quote]
postponed the party to after signing your insurance contract  :D
and congratulations!!

Re: What are you shooting?

We've been shooting mousic videos, indie movies, and commercials with the DVX100. It rocks that much.

We're getting ready to shoot a dark comedy short called 'Neon Cowboy', probably in August, and the DVX100 will be the camera, of course.

Can this really be true? Does anyone else have experience comparing images from the SDX900 or lesser 2/3" or 1/2" cameras?

no doubt that the SDX is a more flexible camera, capable of producing better images.. it also costs 5 - 6 times more. is it 5 - 6 times better image? no way. it's pretty much the same 'look' as the DVX.
there at the event everybody looked at the SDX and said "that's my dream camera" and immediately turn to the DVX to experiment some scene files settings.. which after very few button press (well you know the DVX) made some beautiful stuff to preview.

comparing to the other 1/2" - 2/3".. well, they were not progressive...

i wonder if those shoulder-cameras will vanish from the world one day, leaving us with small cameras such as the DVX. if things will keep on developing the way they're now, we'll witness a shift towards this concept of small, high quality handy cameras. the size matters ;)

Re: What are you shooting?

for run´n´gun situations the shouldercams are still good, cos they give more stability. also the lenses are still superior.
DVX is good in the wideangle with controlled light, but you can´t beat a good lens on a DigiBeta for News-Stuff. Especially when it turns into a long shot (the biggest problem of the DVX IMO).

But yes in the indie-market and magazine-style newsproductions.....small digicams (progressive HDV?!) will be the future.

I agree with alpi69. I think the shoulder mount camera are here for a long time to come, especially for news situations. You really need something to stabilize the shot. Although news teams nearly always have a tripod handy in the field, some shots need to be handheld. On the other hand, the longer zoom will come someday to these smaller cameras.

Re: What are you shooting?

Well, I just got mine a month ago and I am going to use it mainly for short films and for a feature film I am planning to shoot by the end of the year, beginning of next year.

At the moment, I am just playing around with it to get used to it. There are loads of things I still have to know about it.

This is the first time I really invested in a prosumer camera. I stil have my Sony TRV-120, which my mum gave me on christmas 2000. But, the look of it, just put me off and I didn't really like the idea of making short films with it.

Even the Sony PD-150 put me off. Now the DVX-100, well that is a different story. It just amazes me every time I come to this forum.

All the best guys.

Fidel.

PS: I almost bought the JVC one, but it sucks! Not worth the money to me.

Ouch. I figured our beloved DVX100 would be used in this capacity, although I've tried not to think about it.

Re: What are you shooting?

Hmm, so far it's been all learning. Having fun experimenting. So I guess it's all experimental video at the moment.

But, I have one short in the works, a music video for a friend, and plan to start my cycling videos. I've done cycling videos in the past but wanted to upgrade the qaulity. Got that now with my DVX.

Re: What are you shooting?

Right now I am using the DVX-100 to shoot Comcast Commercials in the Philadelphia/Reading Markets. I also shoot some corporate videos along with plays and dance recietals....

Re: What are you shooting?

On Monday I shot a commercial for a local dentist clinic with my DVX.

Next week I'll be in Orlando, FL shooting the XMA Team (Xtreme Martial Arts) as they compete in the U.S. Open Karate Tournament.

I will be shooting with my DVX100A and we're hiring another shooter locally also with a DVX100A.

Our video will eventually be part of an XMA documentary that is being shopped to the Networks.

Re: What are you shooting?

Hey, I'm shooting mostly snowboarding for my upcoming video called Freshies! check the teaser out at www.aspectfilms.ca (not many interesting shots unless you like snowboarding)... other than that, music videos with some friends who are in film school, event videos, corporate videos, short vids just playing around... I'm trying to come up with a story as I really want to shoot a short (or feature) movie

Re: What are you shooting?

Just kidding about the porn by the way... ;D
although the thought has crossed my mind...come on you tryna tell me it hasnt crossed any of your minds?!

Actually busy shooting a music video for a punk band at the moment- about an epic journey of a 'bum' out of the city onto better things. Going to try a bit of blue screening, which i've never actually done before...gonna be loads of fun(have there been any discussion forums about matteing and blue screening in the past- do do with the help.)

Hopefully vid is gonna be on air in a few months. Its amazing how much you learn after each new project.
will post when done.

Sorry I took you seriously. I believe everything I read. ::)

Re: What are you shooting?

I'm shooting a short film called "Lovely Rita". It's based on the Beatles tune of the same name and it's part of a bigger project called "Return to Pepperland" where several local film makers create shorts based on songs from "Sergeant Pepper". All of them will be screened in Atlanta sometime in November.

Re: What are you shooting?

I've shot some stuff of my almost 1 year old baby. a short film and also the "DVX unleashed" Chicago short. I am also hoping to win one of 5 spots in a 24 hour contest in Mexico to shoot a short I wrote. They supply the DVX100As, lighting, sound and editing equipment. 3 prizes: 1200.00, a brand spanking new DVX100A and a Mac G5 tower and monitor. I'm also looking into shooting a feature with a friend in the winter. He wants to keep it very guerrilla.
Trying to shoot this month's DVX short.
Hopefully I'll acquire an underwater housing and dive with the Great White Shark in Guadalupe island this year as well.
I'm also looking into shooting several commercials for my spec reel. A lot of stuff I tried to sell, but the clients didn't buy.
that's it for now.
