What are you shooting?

Re: What are you shooting?

I have been shooting corporate DVDs, music videos, shorts, documentary stuff for a FRONTLINE piece for money. For fun I have been shooting building fires, home made pron and a nasty truck accident on the way to Maine last weekend.

Re: What are you shooting?

Bought the cam specifically to shoot my own feature, which I just wrapped after about 22 days spread out over a few months. Meanwhile, along the way-- have been shooting corprate event stuff, music videos, and now, additional footage for actor demo reels.

Re: What are you shooting?

I've been producing a few comedy shows every year now for about five years, using the facilities at the public access station. The shows are made by creating short skits and then editing away for hours, again, using the editing suites at access. The need to shoot outside the studios gets stronger as I get closer to having all that it takes to produce professional comedy. I ordered the camera yesterday. From all that I have read about it, I would say it is the perfect camera to help accomplish what I have been aiming at for years.

Re: What are you shooting?

Just completed a 12 part DVD Museum Preview piece for the Louisiana Secretary of State. The piece will be installed in each of the museums to introduce the other facilities. In addition the segments will be aired on Public Television and the DVDs will be distributed to school libraries throught the state.
I did a longer version for one of the museums to be played on the large screen in their auditorium daily as an orientation.
Last week I did a four day shoot for Miracle Ear... the show's producer was going to shoot the interviews with his own PD 150, but when he saw the image from my camera... (with great lighting and the black diffuser filter) he was amazed and said "man, your camera is so much better than mine..." we used the DVX... also I did a variety of shooting from steadycam JR of the trade show to locked down fluid head coverage of the presenters and workshops.

The stuff from the museums for the DVD was shot at 30p and really looks like film... for the trade show, I shot at 60i to intercut with the 150 footage. (I must admit it was nice to have the autofucus working)

Overall I have been amazed by this little camera... It looks better than when I used to shoot with Betacam SP and even a little less harsh than the 16mm I've shot... I love it!!

what is an underground church in China, and what are training so much for?

THAT sounds difficult.[/quote]

In China, all religions and churches must be "registered" with the government, which pretty much means it's government censored, controlled, and monitored. An underground church is a church that is run without the government knowing (ala illegal), in order to practice their faith freely. The series i'm doing is a training series for new Christians in order to give the underground church movement (millions of people) materials and training in order to reach more people.

And yes, it is hard, because I don't speak chinese at all. ;)

Re: What are you shooting?

I've had my DVX for a little over a month and have been working on a variety of projects. The main project is a short film about growing up in Charleston, WV in the mid-80s. It's also about hardcore punk rock from the era, chemical plants, and losing one's virginity.... not necessarily in that order! I visited the WV State Film Archive last month to record some old news footage. I'll be combining the found footage with original footage to be shot here in Portland in about a month. If anyone knows any talented actors in these parts who can look 16, send 'em my way!

When visiting WV last month, I interviewed all four of my grandparents while they are still lucid. The footage looks fantastic and will become a part of the State Archive as soon as I send them a copy. I'm also using this amazing little camera to record footage for various video installation projects. It took eight months to save up for the DVX (selling my possessions on ebay!) but it's totally worth it.

Re: What are you shooting?

Love the diversity of everyone shooting different projects.. I'm getting ready to start shooting our documentary on music piracy and how it's changing the industry for artists and fans. The film is entitled SHIFT and you can get an idea what we're doing on the site: http://www.shiftfilm.com/

Disjecta said in the first post of this thread.. "It's a huge undertaking and will require a tremendous amount of patience and research but I'm passionate about the idea."

... and that's absolutely true of this project, and of most films I'm sure. I've got my work cut out for me but I absolutely love the premise of the film, and it has to be made.

We're also looking for more people to get involved so feel free to drop me a line or check the site.. I posted the below post earlier tonight in the Journalism/Documentary forum..

Journalism/Documentary > Music Piracy Documentary

Re: What are you shooting?

I'm going to shoot a documentary as my first project. If I say anything more, I would have to kill you all. ;)

In the meantime, I'll be lurking and asking a lot of noob questions. While I have some filmmaking experience, I'm new to DV.

So far, this forum has provided me with a ton of useful info. I feel lucky to have discovered it. Kudos to the owners/moderators.

Re: What are you shooting?

Ouch. I figured our beloved DVX100 would be used in this capacity, although I've tried not to think about it.

Hey! I've been lurking here for several weeks now (since we got our first DVX-100a) and can tell you that there are plenty of decent, talented, nice people in the adult industry... nothing (iin my book) wrong with talented folks wanting to produce decent video using a kickass camera :)

As I said elsewhere, the DVX-100 is rapidly becoming a camera of choice among the studios I know that produce adult video, and this site has actually been enormously helpful to several of us who have recently started using the DVX-100a for adult video.

I hope that we won't be discriminated against for where we happen to earn our livelihood... the folks I work with (production staff, management, and models) are all great folks to work with.

Re: What are you shooting?

I'm shooting a 10 minute short film as well as preproduction on a 90 minute feature film co-written co-directed and filmed by me.

BY THE WAY...I just read every response...did we ever find out what Jared was talking about?? :D

Terry...I'm still like ???

:D

Re: What are you shooting?

Let's see:

- Some interviews and intros/exits for filmmaking DVD
- A short drama
- Parts of a 13 episode comedy show
- Interviews for a doc on a family of porn performers
- an interview with my navel for 74 part doc on it and it's thoughts on the universe

Scott

P.S. I just made up the navel thing. It was really my earlobe.

Re: What are you shooting?

I shoot commercials for a TV station in Charlotte, NC, using the DVX100. I love it. 24p helps overcome the stigma of "local commercials look cheap (ie. shot-on-video), like car-lot commercials."
My brothers recently shot a 90-minute feature on the DVX100A. It's called "Pirate Kids" and should be available in Wal-Marts shortly (within a few months maybe). They had a 15-day shooting schedule, and it was all edited on Final Cut Pro (at my house!), but I must say the results are pretty impressive. Be sure to check it out and see what can be done with this amazing camera.
