Wedding Video

Hi Brandon, Please go back an read my original post.
I would start by getting a wireless lav like the Sennheiser G2 system or if you have no fear of syncing during post than go with a Edirol R-05 with a wireless Lav mic.

You could also get a Zoom H1 or an H4n... Great products. I own the H4n and it is awesome for capturing the readings, musicians that play live durring ceremonys... I use that with a Lav sometimes to, it has a 4 channel recorder which makes it very versatile.

If you go with a wireless system, here's one of the benefits durring the reception. I get a live feed out of the DJ board 9 times out of 10, I use my wireless mic transmitter with either a 1/4 inch or an RCA right out of the board. This way I get toasts/speeches feed right into the camera. If your using a DSLR I would go right to one of the portable devices I mentioned above. I hope this helps.

okay well for the budget I am on & for what they are expecting I am going to buy a shotgun mic. I don't know how to use wireless lavs.

it says it has been discontinued http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/search?Ntt=Sennheiser+G2+system&N=0&InitialSearch=yes

Yes the G2's are no more because they are now into the G3's The G3 series has some of the features of the big boys like IR syncing.

You will also want an omni head for closed setups like video.

I've done tons of wedding work. I personally use a Zoom H2 recorder and use a standard clip-on mic input to the minijack. Put a sd card in the H2, hit record twice and then "hold" so the groom doesn't accidentally shut it off. Wrap the excess mic cord around the unit and stuff it in the grooms pocket(About the same size of any LAV unit). Later you have to synch the audio for the i-do's but no sweat really. Some may say this is stupid, but it works and the H2 is an awesome tool.

Note: I bought this before the H4 came out. Good Luck!

None of those mics state what frequency band they are in. 700mhz is no longer legal in the US and I'm sure that there are people trying to scam others into buying their illegal mics. Buyer Beware!

oh I see well what should I search for on ebay?
ebay is NOT where you need to be searching. you dont need yet another piece of gear that you have no idea how to use. if you'll notice, david suggested GOOGLE not EBAY.

i think everyone here would advise you that you need to spend more time on google and less on b&h or ebay

scroll up a little bit and notice where bclighting said "700 mhz is no longer legal in the US" try a google search on that... you'll find a ton of info.

earlier you said "I don't know how to use wireless lavs." - thats no excuse not to use them! wireless lavs are about the most common piece of audio for video equipment.

try a google search for "I don't know how to use wireless lavs" - the info is right there at your fingertips. TRY TO EDUCATE YOURSELF! its out there and easy to find for everyone. if you dont know anything about a PRIMARY piece of wedding audio gear, id say you have no business trying to shoot anyones wedding yet.

and earlier you mentioned using the shotgun with your DSLR. to get the shotgun to work with the dslr, youre probably going to need one of these:

again man, im not trying to hassle you, but the answers to your problems cant be had with a credit card. and there arent always easy answers. there are a lot of variables to understand before you can successfully do what youre trying to do. lets try doing a little more reading and a little less shopping.
