It is about time for a 7D price cut. Maybe they will wait for the next Nikon to be announced.

The 7d is a better camera for photographers.
It shoots more frames per second (stills)
It is made from better materials.
It has a dual processor (this usually results in less sheering of video image/ less rolling shutter)
It comes with a pc jack for studio lighting

Maybe this will also impact the AF feature while doing video. Less CPU power on board might play a role ...

I'm buying one for a low light crash cam. @ $799 what the heck, I don't expect it to be better than the 7D by any means, just cheaper. If they ever hit $500 street price each I'm going to buy 20 of them for a night time race car video I have been wanting to make then sell them all on eBay.

I can't tell if that is a lot of noise or just really bad compression...

It was pretty noisy on my end. But still damn good. I will get one as a B cam for sure. at that price it really seems like a steal. But I guess we will really see when the folks around here get there hands on it.

Times are a changin'

SLightly off topic here, but does anyone know how this camera compares to the Panasonic Gh1?

THank you

It's impossible to tell until more clips come out, but probably in much the same way as the 7D, and there are plenty of articles/threads around comparing those two.

Being on the bleeding edge and playing with the right people has gotten me pretty far. Somewhere in there I've learned how to shoot a little, as well. LoL. So, that's what I mean by propellers.

It certainly appears so! :)

Well, Video Village isn't the only thing you would want live video feed for. What about simply using a larger monitor on your rig? Also, VV doesn't have to be a number of monitors, but could be just one standard def monitor right?

Certainly true! Don't get me wrong, I think it was boneheaded of Panasonic not to include this in the first place. However, I'm primarily a director who is forced to lens my own smaller and/or personal projects on occasion. On those smaller projects, it doesn't seem like it would be much of a problem. There is still HDMI out prior to hitting record and on playback, right?

It's honestly not so much that it's faster, you're right that both require an extra step. However, the pulldown in GH-1 footage is causing issues. It's just old and I don't really like having to explain that process to people who I'm delivering footage to, in the event that either of my companies are not handling the post process.

It is definitely easier to deliver Quicktimes at the end of the day.

TOTALLY hear you! It's scary to turn over tape/files anyway without knowing how smart/green the editor is, "Hey....um....what are these funny horizontal lines in his footage? This guy sucks!"

Check the Monster Fest Entry: Dispatch -- Shot by Matty_G on the GH-1 w/Anamorphics. It's one of THE most amazing no-budget DSLR videos I've seen, and reminded me that I love the GH-1 so much more than the 7D.

It just looks much better to me.

Now THAT freaking rocked! No doubt Matty_G has got some serious chops! But it also just seems like everything I see coming from the GH1 looks cinematic vs. a bit plastic and video-like on the Canon's - but that's just my sense. But then I hear guys like Phil Bloom bashing the GH1, and I'm like - what am I missing here? (Okay, bashing might be a bit strong!). Anyway, I think I'll end up with a GH1 for now, see what I think.

No problem at all. Just make sure it's Lemonade!!! I loves lemonade!

Lemonade it is!....for you anyway! :) Of course, I haven't been to NAB in about five years now anyway. So you might have a lemonade tab with me for awhile! :)

I just downloaded..watched...and played with the Leonardo DeCaprio clip from the Red.

Dam....these DSLRs suck!!! lol

Weight issue.

Weight issue.

Sorry if this has been mentioned but this tread is already too long to wade through on my slow work computer. Assuming the image was exactly the same. My only concern is the weight of the camera its about 300g different about a third at least lighter. Is this going to cause issues of stability when using handheld does anyone have experience with this issue from the 7D and maybe the 500d?

My assumption is it will make handheld stability a problem. Maybe

For the umpteenth time, you really can't compare a camera worth TENS OF THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS to one worth THOUSANDS.

I'm sorry for the ridiculous emphasis, but I feel it's absolutely futile to draw a comparison between the Canon DSLRs and the Red cameras, it's like comparing a Casio with a Rolex. Both do the same job well, but one does it with better style and finesse.

This is in response to the seemingly hundreds of posts making comparisons.
