Its not mine but looks very good and effects look realistic, great work IMO,i think it deserves more exposure :

Your work is amazing. I wish I could learn more how you did it? LIghting? Camera/lens? Effects? Beautiful.

Note to self: Shoot all my future greenscreen jobs using a half-naked bald guy. Will make pulling keys in post quite a bit easier! ;-)

I looked at that DP's other work on Vimeo, too; he does really cool stuff. Thanks for the link!

love it! About to download his album from Itunes. I like this guy. Very Nice find! It's like a rock, drum and bass, rock thing.

I'd agree it needs more exposure...it's kind of underexposed. Maybe it's color work, either way, the flesh tones are really dark and flat. Other than that really nice though.

this is no "I-bought-yesterday-a-5DMK2" type of video clip.
I'm sure this look is the look the creator was looking for...
(We can argue if that's indeed the best look - but I'm quite sure he color graded his work :P )

It deserves basic color correction.

/QUOTE]

Come on, really. This was obviously the look the artist was going for. It is very clear he knows what he is doing. He really doesn't need suggestions on color grading.

BTW, the video id fantastic reminds me of Dali.

The white balance deviation is too small to be considered a creative choice IMHO. When it's a creative manipulation it is usually more bold than this.

Not using your full contrast range cannot be considered a creative manipulation IMHO because it simply does not work in real life, different monitors have different contrast range and different black/white levels. It is as useful as setting the level of an audio mastering to be low on purpose. A manipulation like this can only work when there ia material before and after the low contrast region. That's how dynamics are achieved. A low contrast clip that is played in isolation will only look bad.

A good use of low contrast range can be found in Erik the Viking, in the transition between the two worlds. It works because there is an actual transition to the great colorful new world.

I looked into the artist. All of the clips by Sofiyana have the same low levels. If you see them one after the other, there is no change, there is no transition, there is no effect. A constant mood is not even a mood. We adjust to it very soon and we don't even notice it without a reference for comparison. To sum it up, great art, bad mastering. IMHO as always.

Come on guys. Hate mail? Did I insult somebody's dogma? I appreciate your enthusiasm but do I really need to raise the sarcasm banner? I just disagreed on the mastering on my original post and perhaps I was a little too forward.

Not refering to zedprime and phudsonxt or anyone responding here btw!

One of the world's greatest audio mastering engineers once said that no musician should be allowed to perform mastering on his own work.

Interesting quote. To each their own, actually. Technically can go wrong, but art is this. There's no perfection. Especially in art.

Not to add any fuel to this firre....but in looking at his other videos....I'd say that the color choice was on purpose. It's common among his other work.

I've heard this for years....but it hasn't stopped me from mastering my own stuff one bit.
