I found a beautiful audio kit!! What do you think?

I'd avoid an Aluminum pole. The gitzo CF poles are a nice budget minded pole. I'm not a big fan of the sm-3 either. Its fine for on camera mounting ENG run and gun but it doesnt do much to protect against vibration. Ktek KGPS and KSSM are two fantastic shockmounts IMO.

I'm not sure either is a "great" deal. Your not getting a huge amount off of the individual prices. Not bad stuff, the NTG is decent sounding (judging by my one experience using one) and is VERY affordable. Softies won't do much for you except in very light wind so... Aluminum boom poles aren't terrible. You need to be more careful with handling noise and they are heavier but as a starter I wouldn't worry about it, But 9' is a tad on the short side so you will run into situations where you cant get the mic as close as optimal. The shock mount in the Trew kit is better than the B&H, neither are great. Neither kit has a hyper-cardioid mic so you will need to add that if your planning on recording indoors much, though the NTG doesn't seem to be as indoor unfriendly as many so you might be able to squeak by... but probably not.

Just noticed the B&H pole is only 7' that is too short. I have one I use for FX recording and have used on shoots and it is just too short for a lot of production work. Fine for ENG where your getting in the picture isn't that much of an issue.

you could get a gitzo CF pole 12' for $280.

Don't get a shotgun w/o a zepplin (k-tek z-zepp $325)

Do you mainly shoot indoors or out?

sorry about restarting the thread but I need to upgrade my boom
and I can't find the carbon fiber Gitzo 12', sane can you help me out?

BTW renegade, the K-Tek zeppelin is a "GREAT deal" for sure, it does the job perfectly, it is no hassle and for the price Sane poited it out to you it comes
with a shock mount that performs on par to the wind protection.
