UPS Fumble

Got new HVX today

I was shocked that the UPS guy set it at my door, knocked and walked away before I could answer. As I opened the door he disappeared around the corner saying "there you go".

Usually I have to sign for things so I thought it was odd.

It also arrived with a NASTY gash in the lower left side of the box (were the camera sits!) I pulled out and looked and can see whatever ripped through the box actually indented the Styrofoam.

I ran the camera and it seems OK, but it was not pleasant + still unsure if I should accept that BS from UPS.

So if filed a claim with UPS and am trying to figure out how to handle it.

I cant even test P2 because I dont have cards! Seems the soltion would be to have UPS pay for Panny service inspection + any found damages.

Any tips?

UPS did the same friggin thing with my camera. They left it at the front frigging door even though they were supposed to have me sign for it. I got home and it had been sitting outside for an hour. They then attempted to come back a day later to get me to sign.. I went nuts and called to complain. UPS sucks. I hate 'em. I hate my UPS driver.. who I've had words with after he smashed 20 of my kino flo bulbs....

AVS used Fed Ex to ship my p2store at my request. I think UPS is a bunch of crap and there attitude and professionalism sucks.. What can brown do for me? They can eat a pile of brown doo doo for all I care.

A few others had the same problem... Did you get insurance on the shipping? I'd call and give someone a ration of ****!!!!! Man... that steams me up that it is happening to others....

Brown can F&*K off!

My UPS guy rocks. I can totally understand the frustraion though! I've made friends with him over time so I always get treated will. He delivers my stuff in clear plastic bags if there is even a HINT of rain, and if it is raining and I'm not home he knows it's cool with me if he doesn't leave the package and tries again tomorrow.

I give my delivery folks free stuff, like a DVD when I get a bunch delivered from the replicator or something. Maybe that helps.

For what it's worth, my HVX box was ripped too... and I picked it up directly from the Panasonic dealer!

it does have ins.

Oddly, the dealer didn’t send with required sig.

but that’s aside from the damage.

I’m waiting to find out how the dealer will support this while standing by to see what USP says about my claim.

but this was more than a rip it was what appears to have been a very strong puncture that penetrated well into the Styrofoam surrounding the body of the camera. Now I can’t really test the thing with confidence. Given how complex this unit is, seems it would be foolish to accept.

By law, they have up to 180 days to resolve the matter. I'm attorney an UPS destroyed a G5 I sent to the midwest that I had insured for $1300.00.

It took repeatedly telephone calls, and finally threat of a lawsuit to get the settlement.

Crawford is their claims agent.

Take pictures of the box. Many pictures, and do not throw away any of the packings. Make the claim, and someone will show up

You have to show damage, which means an estimate repair.

If the cam works, you're out of luck

I happened to get some of my order from B&H a few days before my 100b arrived. I told my UPS guy that I was expecting another package in a few days and requested that he not leave it on my doorstep without my signature. He agreed, but I took off work anyway so I could be home when it arrived. ;) I've gotten to know my UPS guy as well, and I think that helps.

In the past I've had problems with FedEx leaving packages unsigned, and even on the wrong doorstep! (luckily, I know most of my neighbors) I've also never seen the same FedEx guy twice.

The same thing happened to me. UPS lost my Panasonic GS400, by misdelivering it to the wrong address. Then they left my brand-new DVX100B on my front porch, in full view of the street. Mind you, I'm gone all day, and several shady solicitors visit trying to sell things (but probably casing houses for a burglary). Out of sheer luck, I just happened to come home for lunch that day, and found my DVX100B on the porch. If I didn't come home until later, I'm sure it would be gone.

Best thing is to get a tracking number and be home when UPS brings your delivery.

Fed Ex ain't so great either... When my girlfriend was working as a real estate office receptionist, she almost got in trouble for allegedly losing/misplacing some important documents that Fed Ex claimed they'd delivered and that she signed for... luckily, she realized the driver had forged her signature because he'd forgotten to make the delivery.

For international shipping DHL is usually better than fedex cuz they take a more active role in processing customs and duties etc. at least in asia that seems to be true.

Wow, that's illegal. Good thing she caught it. Hope the driver got fired. American commerce, a billion dollar industry, relies on reliable package delivery. Can't believe that stuff still goes on.

Wait, how are you going to file a claim if there is no damage?

Whether or not you have to sign is something determined by the shipper, not UPS. You can't blame UPS since they don't know or care what's in the box. They can only do what the shipper instructs them to do. If no signature is required, it gets dropped off and that's that.

Living ten minutes from the Cleveland DC, I'm lucky enough that I can plug in the info tag they leave and go pick it up.

Ideal opportunity to get a free HVX if your were a bit crocked. Phone up UPS and say, "where is my camera?" They say they left it on your doorstep. You say, well it isn't there now so someone has stolen it. As it needed my sig, you are responsible so cough up for a new one please". Doubt they would have a leg to stand on.

but then again we are all honest folks on here, right??? ;)

Not to metion that scuch a scam is illegal, if they found out - you could get convicted for forgery....

Of course it is! But it would serve UPS right for not getting the sig. Leaving a $9000 camera setup on a door step so everyone could see it is asking for a rogue to come along pick it up and walk off into the big blue yonder with it.

By the way Anders I am coming to Copenhagen again this summer for the speedway GP. Went last year and stayed at the 71 Nyhaven, a great spot with all the resteraunts. A great city. Tivoli Gardens is very cool.

UPS is awful...I have never had a good experience with them. FedEx all the way...
I used to think FedEx was the best.

Seven out of my last eight bills were incorrect. Always higher, never lower. Twice I sent to a business/commercial address and it was builded as a residence.

FedEx will only give you "estimates" for shipping charges. Interestingly, these "estimates" are always lower than actual billed charges.

If we had the same procedure in a grocery store, things would be interesting.

The latest package, I purposely overweighed and sized.

It was 14x14x14 and 11 pounds.

On line I made is 15x15x15 and 12 pounds.

We'll see when the bill comes.
