Unable to use hack FAQ

Hi, Vitaliy. It looks like this is what has happened to me. I just want to say on behalf of all of us what a great job you've done and how grateful we all are that you have applied your expertise to something so technical and I truly hope that something happens with the summit with Panasonic.

I am going to contact the retailer I purchased the camera from and point out that my gh1 has a version of software installed (1.34) which is not available from the panasonic website. I will then update this post with their response.

One Question; I have an old GH1 that is no hacked yet (1.1). Is there any possibility that Panasonic modified the 1.32 (not the 1.34) version firmware that I should be downloading from their site for the hack? If so do we have the original one saved to somewhere else?

If this is a dumb quo no prob for erasing. Thanks.

Ptool checks the firmware file when you open it. If v.1.32 was modified you will very likely get an error.

Hi - I purchased a GH1 for my company (based in Eastern England) on the 30th June.
I've checked it and it has the 1.34 firmware - I have to say I've disappointed that I won't be able to ramp up the bit rate etc, but having said that - I've just shot a project using it in 720p mode - with Nikon AI lenses, and our client is over the moon.

This is disappointing news indeed. I was just considering purchasing a GH1 (have a GF1 that's half a year old though which will be fine), but now with this news I will not buy a GH1(unless used and firmware 1.32 and under) and nor will I purchase a GH2 as I do not like to support companies that are anti-hack.

I suggest anyone who has bought a gh1 recently with the newest firmware and is not happy they cannot load the hack to consider returning it. Returns are the best way to "vote" with one's dollar.

This is the reason new gh1's are being found online for 950 usd... Bummer, I was thinking about buying a second cam.

About to send my camera in for warranty work...

About to send my camera in for warranty work...

I am about to send my GH1 in for warranty work, and this really bothers me. One of the clasps for the camera strap fell off (the nut is still rattling about in the camera body), so I am really on the fence now about sending it in... I am a big fan of this hacked firmware, so I really don't want to risk Panasonic updating my firmware for me if I send it in for repair. I have owned Panasonic cameras in the past, but this is the first time I have had to deal with a warranty issue. Should I be concerned about Panasonic upgrading my camera to this new firmware, or should I just go ahead and send it in?

I wouldnt put it past them to do it. So if possible would hold onto it for a while.

I had the exact same problem last week. Clasp that attaches to the neck strap also broke on its own and I was lucky to catch the camera before it hit something. Clearly this must be a common thing. I can hear something inside but I also hesitate to send my camera for repair because I value too much what I am getting with the hacked firmware.

Heh - funny you should mention that... I still have not sent mine in :) Good thing too, because I had to use it last night. But as long as I'm not taking still shots, I don't really miss the strap...

Just out of interest.

Does the v1.34 block signal the end of the hack development?

I'm still searching for a hackable GH1, and have no doubt about finding one, as it happens, and the improvements so far seem to be more than enough to merit applause and a donation.

But, is this the end?

I understand that to circumvent v 1.34 it's necessary to get hold of the firmware. However, as the GH1 is about to be replaced, it seems reasonable to at least suppose that no further public firmware upgrades will be forthcoming - meaning nothing to decompile.

A spiteful last gesture by Panasonic?,

If new lenses are released, I assume they will need to release downloadable firmware to take advantage of those lenses. So no
