Trailer for 7D feature LIKE CRAZY released

Does the $250k budget include how much Anton Yelchin got paid? Or do film budgets usually exclude talent purses?

well done! looks freaking awesome! This should (in my opinion) shut up a lot of the anti-dslr people out there.

Many other things should have "shut up alot of anti-dslr people" and it didnt. this will be no different. I highly doubt it was bought because it was shot on the 7d but because it was a good story. I say just make films...whatever you use.

But what about the moire or even rolling shutter....... SMH

Honestly though if I had a lot of money to shoot the film I would probably shoot it on a different camera. I mean with 200K + IM more than sure you could take out $15-20k for a nice camera. Actually though I don't even know what IM talking about..... IM so tired of this conversation.

I never understood the point of this. If you have the budget for putting 10k+ lenses on a camera, why not buy a better camera? Besides, the benefits of 10K+ lenses aren't going to be very noticeable on a DSLR picture.
Neither did I, I think people who have used these lenses on productions can maybe chime in and make us understand better. The only thing I can think is that these cine lenses they use can be used on any camera and it is something they already own or operate. So if they have Canon Dslrs in a sense they can make the image better and the work flow is faster and less expensive then working with other cameras such as red and P2 panasonic's? Just a guess, but would like to really know the reason myself.

The main reason, from my experience, is that having proper cine lenses means your DP and AC team can work with tools they're probably used to and comfortable with: a good follow-focus and mattebox. These things may not seem like a big deal for those starting out with DSLRs and moving up, but a talented, experienced DP is going to do his best work with tools he's familiar with and has confidence in. Lenses, follow-focus, mattebox, etc.

From a producer's point of view, having quality tools like these means the camera department can work more efficiently, without fighting the gear they're using.

Let's not let this turn into another discussion about the 7D. Everyone is aware of its strengths and its weaknesses, and just like any other camera it has plenty of both. What it comes down to is that the DP and his camera team got the opportunity to work on a project with a great story/script, and played the camera's strengths - which is what any good DP ought to be able to do regardless of the camera/format.

Films like this are very inspiring for DSLR filmmakers like myself. That they used a PL mount always feels like a bit of false advertising, but it's inspiring none-the-less.

I agree with the above comments that the "story" will always be key. An 8mm camera and a great story can get you an Oscar. A bad story and a RED Epic can get you a great image.

Cameras don't make great films. Filmmakers do.

Right on point Peter. Usually these threads start a "7D? A GH2 could've done just as good if not a better job at capturing great images." Instead what others should take out of it is that yes you can make films with a DSLR, or a Sony Handycam, or an iPhone, etc etc. It should inspire!
