bloody hell. okay, so we broke the ice on thursday and now we gotta get more DVXusers involved here. It would be good and productive if we were all able to collaborate on projects much in the vein of Fat Monster. I know there are lots of indie filmmakers out in Toronto, some out on their own and they've never even heard of DVXUser, but I'd very much like to combine expertise.
We all got something to offer, through our own experiences and such, even if it's only gear and the ability to use it well.
I'm down. Didn't mean to insult Kingston... My uncle lives there. It is not Toronto or Montreal, though. Is there a way to start compiling all the local members and send a general message through this site? I can do it through my gmail. I know some people that are not on this site that would definitely get involved.
Some people don't actually list their location in their signature so it's hard to know when someone is in your area... or in some cases right down the street from you. Is there a way to do a user search based on location? mostly it's through people i've seen on the boards and they've mentioned where they were shooting...
now i feel like a doofus: just did a search based on location (advanced search, duh) and there's apparently quite a few of us Toronto users. So now gotta get these guys to come out of hiding...
How bad can Kingston be? Well, it's better than Belleville.
I do a few VFX, still learning. If that's of interest at some point gimme a shout.
My brother has a DVX100 but he's really busy with work and life in general but he might be down for something.
Hey Raptor, glad you could join us. You do VFX you say? That's one area that I know I'm personally weak in and could always do to know a good VFX specialist.
Guess I shoudl answer my own question:
I'm a writer, director, cinematographer and editor. I really enjoy the intricacies of story-telling though, taking it from the script and making it visually compelling. Story is pretty much my religion.
i do shoot for other directors on occasion and I enjoy that kind of work, since I can focus on the technical aspects and the framing of the shots.
I'm shooting on a DVX100A with a DIY 35mm Adapter and Canon Lenses. Getting my HVX in a few days and a Glidecam V-8, plus RedRock pacakge. I edit on the PC using Premiere Pro CS3.
I don't have a demo reel but here's what I've been up to around here...
I'm doing some modeling and some of the usual fixing up stuff for video.
I've done some animations in part of my brothers dvx shorts. Some funny monster stuff and a 30 second spitfire sequence in the Hero fest. As well as a few for other dvx shorts.
I have a couple threads in the 3D section, 'Raptors stuff' and 'Modelling a spitfire I hope' which I started when I first started using C4D. Working on a new spit model which is the last on that page.
I had 2 entries in the Dvx VFX challenge, got 2nd, then 1st, in the 'Special
Effects/Stunts' section.
Most recently I modeled and animated at spaceship, 2 brief
sequences in the Timefest entry '02' by Mark Johnson.
Current using C4D, Vegas 7, photoshop, AE7 (I need a litte more exp with AE).
SWEET! Good to have someone of your skill level around. Especially with spaceships and monsters. Personally I suck at AE and at some point these days there's always a need for AE.
Well, this is awkward. I don't particularly like spacehips or monsters. I just happend into it. I would prefer ww2 stuff. But, hey, work is work. And I still have fun doing it ofcourse.
Hey sorry I have not really been down to the 'user meetings' section of the forum in a while so I've been out of the loop. But yea, I'd be up for a meet up somewhere if you have one next week or anytime this month I'm afraid I can't come but let me know what the plan is anyway.
