Top 5 must have lens for a GH1?

i like 40mm equivalent focal length. for head shoulders portrait, i got a fast nifty fifty 1.4.

Ya, the fifty is perfect except without IS it is very shaky. The 30mm range is not so bad and can still throw out of focus without getting too close to the subject.

fifty's bokeh is better than 30mm's. 85mm has better bokeh than fifty's.

the tele conversion feature will make 30mm lens deeper dof, too.

20pancake has pretty decent shallow dof at the focal length. good low light performance. faster AF in gh2. i see the world in 40mm focal length. "BARSKA Accu Grip Handheld" made easier MF on pancake without a tripod. its a keeper for street photography and videography. pretty good for 2.35:1 cropping, too.

14pancake is so tiny that it will be impossible to do MF.

You serious? That little pistol grip made a difference? How can that be more stable than holding the camera in 2 hands and pressing it against your face?

right hand grips the handle. press evf on right eye. left hand rotates focus ring. palm facing away from body. i can rotate about 200 degrees. u know... wax on wax off.

Hmmm - interesting. Might be worth a punt for all the price it is.

Not available in the UK it seems though - will scout around for an alternative.

I use mainly a 28mm f2.8 I´ve tried a 24mm but IMO doesn´t work on peoples faces (too much perspective distortion an d big noses), as a normal lens the 28 is as wide as I go, then when I need a wide angle I use the kit lens at 14-18mm, I also have a summicron r 50mm which you can find really cheap in leicaflex version, beautyful bokeh. I find it difficult to buy a pancake lens no way a FF can fit there. I don´t know if my next lens would be a 90mm or a 21mm from leica r.
I believe in three lenses the ideal for me is 18 - 28 - 50 (and a backup tele just in case 75-90 range)

If I had the money tho the olympus 14-35 f2 and the 35-100 f2 are to dream of,

I'm considering purchasing a GH1, and wondering if my following set of lenses will work well with it for video?

Tamron 17-50mm f/2.8 XR Di II (Pentax mount...)
Nikon 28mm F2.8 AIS
Nikon 50mm F1.4 AI
Nikon 85mm F2.0 AIS

Sounds like a great combo!

i had the 28mm ai-s but returned it. f2.8 is too slow for prime. the famous lens has no distortion but gh1 is 2x crop body. i got vivitar komine 28mm 2.0 at $100. pretty good except bad flares. nikkor 28mm 2.0 ai-s is more expensive than panny 20mm 1.7. i like the pancake... im gonna sell the vivitar fd mount lens.

50mm 1.4 ai-s. get it. i luv it.

85mm 2.0 ai-s? get 1.4. either ai-s 1.4 or samyang 1.4. if 1.4 is available, why settle down for anything less?

tamron... i thought hard about this. i use gh13 for photo, too. i need fast AF from zoom. oly 14-54 mark ii? but... is 2.8 zoom fast enough in low light? many times i had to use 1.4 or 2.0 for primes. i'd use zoom in good lighting. then 14-140 is a viable choice. very sharp. mega ois. fast AF. used around $500. new around $550. not bad.

Is there any good wide angle fast prime in FD mount ? I currently have 50mm 1.8 and love it but due to the GH1 2x crop factor, it is not a good choice where you have limited maneuvering space.

Following are the lenses that I currently have

- 14-140 kit lens
- panny pancake lens
- Canon FD 50mm 1.8
- Oly 14-54mm
- Canon FD 70-210mm

The reputed fast wide angle prime in FD mount would be a 24mm 1.4, which would translate to a 48mm (or 43.2mm on GH-1). Not a very appealing choice for the price you pay for it.

For general purpose shooting, and for wider framing than the 50mm on the GH1, I would look into the 24mm to 35mm range (48mm to 70mm equivalent field of view on the GH1).
24mm f 2.0, 28mm f 2.0 or 35mm f2.0 FD lenses by Canon are excellent choices. There are also the equivalent Vivitars in FD mount made by Kiron or Komine, which are great alternatives and can be purchased for less than the Canons.

24mm f2.8 FD (just picked one of these up yet to try out)
35mm f3.5 FD (not the fastest and the older breechlock version but i love this lens alot! love the sharpness and contrast, cheap and easy to pick up, will last for another 40 years!)
50mm f1.4 FD (everyone should get this if they want a manual lens, cheap too!)
55mm f1.2 FD (great low light lens but i think id use the quarter priced 50mm f1.4 more)
14-140mm f4-5.6 M4/3 (hated at first but love now! good allrounder! super crisp and auto features)
pancakes (cause i love pancakes, i loved this lens at first but ive gone off it a little recently, saying that i went off the 14-140 and i love it on revisiting so probably be the same for the 20mm f1.7 - super handy lens!)
jupiter-9 85mm lens (love the look this lens gives but its like a blooming telescope!)
