Top 5 must have lens for a GH1?

How is that Pentax 25mm 1.4? I had my eye on one on ebay but it went for £100, didn't think it was worth it really. Got any footage with it??
Not yet. I ordered it last week and am still waiting. See the wonderful work by seb33. http://www.dvxuser.com/V6/showthrea...ect-10-10-10-with-GH1-and-CCTV-C-%F9ount-lens i think he used cosmicar 25mm 1.8. those imperfect lenses seem great on little kids. unique dreamy look, sharp center, soft corners, vignetting, barrel distortion, "circular" bokeh, tilt-and-shift effect at max aperture.

Barry Green posted this on the AF100 forum and I think it's a great summary of the 14-140, f4-5.8 kit lens:

"The Lumix 14-140 is almost a must-have. It's a great lens, great range, great OIS, video autofocus, excellent feedback to the camera on focus and iris position, it holds focus throughout the zoom range, and the lens/camera combination work together to eliminate barrel distortion and CAC. It's slow at f/4, but then again it's cheap and powerful. Excellent default lens."
One aspect of photography and videography I like the most about is that I tend to go out more often when weather is awesome. When weather is great, we tend to move a lot more. I had a couple of primes... but forgot to carry ND filters. ISO at 100, aperture at the smallest, shutter speed at 120th... I thought the kit zoom would have been great to capture the moment. I'm a firm believer that diffusion filter & post-processing can make 14-140 footage look nice.

Hi!

- For stills and quick pre-shooting of a scene:
Lumix G Vario 14-42mm f/3.5-5.6

- For video:
Kiron 24mm f/2
Minolta Rokkor-HH 35mm f/1.8
Minolta Rokkor-X 50mm f/1.4
(all used with a MC/MD to m4/3 adapter)

A really fast and wide lens is still missing - does anybody know about an old full manual lens?
For now I'm planning to buy a Samyang 14mm f/2.8 or the Lumix Pancake - but a cheaper option would be nice.

I can't really comment on the IQ of the Kiron/Minolta lenses, as I have not really tested them yet. The only thing I have seen, is some softness at max. apperture (but its also really hard to get perfect fokus at f1.4 ;-).
The handling of these old lenses is really nice, but they are heavy. If I'm also using a Raynox 0.65x adapter with them, an extra support is really necessary.

Cheers

Top 5 must have is a little too much a number to be a must have for me. My currently acquiring set up is the 14-45mm, 45-200mm and 25mm 0.95.

what's the best AND cheapest option for wider lens to match footage with canon fd's ? just bought the GH2 body only..

thanks!

* oh i mean wider than the 28mm fd..

could anyone confirm whether the sigma 10-20 would work with the GH1 (and would it therefore work with the new AF101?)

I'm after buying a canon 7d and want a wide angle lens that I'll be able to use on that, the GH1 and the AF101 if I get one.

I've heard the panny 7-14 is great but I assume I wouldnt be able to use that on the 7d with an adapter?

You can find Sigma compatibility with GH1 here: http://panasonic.jp/support/global/cs/dsc/connect/g1.html

And can probably assume the same compatibility with AF100/101 as with GH2 shown here: http://panasonic.jp/support/global/cs/dsc/connect/g2.html

Note that you could use the GH1 tables to determine compatibility with the AF100/101, however the GH2 actually has increased lens functionality, in some cases, over the GH1 so using the GH2 tables makes more sense in that regard since the same would apply to the AF100/101.

M4/3 lenses will not work with any non-M4/3 cams (read 7D) - the 4/3 lenses will work with M4/3 cams (with adapter), but the reverse is not true.

thanks, exactly what I thought.

So just to clarify, if I stick for example a Tamron 28-75 on the AF100 with an adapter (canon one I'd assume?) I'll lose auto focus AND in camera iris control? or will I still be able to use the iris adjustment on the camera body to control the lens aperture?

Of course, you'd need a specific adapter for whatever mount the Tamron has and I'm assuming it's Canon since you asked about the 7D. Basically, if the lens isn't listed on the links I provided it's not going to communicate with the camera electronically to be able to control autofocus or aperture in camera. However, you may want to ask AF100 related questions over on the AF100 forum as there are some new adapters coming out from Birger to allow control of Canon EF lenses, so who knows what else may appear.

thanks tflak i will do that.

The tamron doesnt feature in the GH2 list but the sigma I'm getting does:

10-20mm F4-5.6 EX DC HSM OK(*1) AFS,MF(*7) NG NG NG(MF) OK OK(*8)

however the table seems to regard focus only and not aperture control?

Anything listed as "OK" in the "AE operation" column should give you aperture control. Looks like the Sigma does according to the table's "OK(*8)" that you have listed.

Hi Guys, thought I'd try here rather than make another thread.
Nice easy question, Ive got the stock lens and the Pany 1.7 20mm.
Which lens would you get to have-
Zoom,
Width similar to the 14-140,
here is the tough one- f1.8 or close to.

Dont care about auto focus, I'm liking manual.
Is there a lens out there that can do this?

I dont think you can get a zoom with an lower aperture value than 2.8 and zooms with as big a range as 14-140 with aperture of 2.8 I'd expect are very pricy.

I've bought a 28-75 and I'm keeping an eye on a couple of old manual 70-200 2.8 lenses for if I ever need the reach

For me the 5 must have lenses are:
Olympus 14-54mm f2.8-3.5
Olympus 50-200mm f2.8-3.5
Panasonic 20mm f1.7
Panasonic 14-140mm f4-5.8
Panasonic 7-14mm f4

Olympus 14-54mm f2.8-3.5
Olympus 50-200mm f2.8-3.5
Panasonic 20mm f1.7
Panasonic 14-140mm f4-5.8
Panasonic 7-14mm f4

I've got 3 of those lenses and would highly recommend them.

Olympus 14-54mm f2.8-3.5 <------------- Perfect all round lens. If I can only take one lens with me, this is my choice.
Panasonic 20mm f1.7 <-------------------- Razor sharp and awesome low light lens.
Panasonic 14-140mm f4-5.8 <------------ Without doubt, one of the best video lenses of GH1.

I would also add Canon FD 50mm 1.4 to the list. You can pick one up very cheap from eBay and it a great lens to have for indoor shooting.
