Top 5 must have lens for a GH1?

Is it worth paying us$250 for the 14 - 45mm (new private buy ) or better to get the 20mm f1.7? Video use only.

If you mean the 20mm, then yes it's worth it. Especially if you can get it for that price. I haven't seen it that low but haven't looked lately. It's a great little lens for the GH1 or GF1.

No i meant the 14 - 45mm short zoom on the previous page

I'm interested in the Panasonic zooms as well. I'm still shopping for my first lenses! I just have the GH1 body so far.

I think it's pretty much a given that I'll be getting the 20mm pancake lens, as everyone raves about it, but what do you guys think of the the zooms? I'd like these to get adjusted to finding the focal lengths I'll enjoy using and also for some travel photography. Would you recommend me getting the Panasonic Lumix H-FS014045 Zoom lens - 14 mm - 45 mm - F/3.5-5.6 - Micro Four Thirds and Panasonic Lumix H-FS045200 Telephoto zoom lens - 45 mm - 200 mm - F/4.0-5.6 - Micro Four Thirds, or just the Panasonic Lumix HVS014140 Zoom lens - 14 mm - 140 mm - F/4.0-5.8 - Micro Four Thirds? Thanks!

I love this one, just the right flare(50mm 1.8 nikon) and inside if you can go 2.8-4 with some lighting you will be very happy..i dont like the old nikon 1.4 (too soft until 4 and above)..I think i need to get the pancake lens next..

I agree this combo is very easy on the eyes. However I can't seem to figure out how to adjust my aperture. I'm using a Nikon G mount 4/3 adapter with the Nikkor 50mm 1.8 and my GH1. What gives?

Well, the 17-35mm is huge on the GH1, and I'm afraid to hold just the camera for fear of bending the mount, so I hold the lens too, and it's an AF-S lens, so the focus ring just keeps on turning and has a short throw, and it focuses past infinity

The focus ring continuously turning would be annoying, but all my manual lenses focus past infinity. The nice thing about the stop at the end is that you know to hit the infinity end then back up a bit.

The Panasonic lens I'd really like to have is the 7-14.

Is it possible to adjust the aperture on this lens or am I limited to ISO, shutter speed (horrible option) and ND filters?

Also (here comes my inexperience with DSLRs) why would I want a 50 mm 1.8 if I could have 17mm 1.8? Wouldn't I be able to accomplish the same shots and then some with the 17mm 1.8? It's not as telephoto but couldn't I just move the camera closer if I had to - very curious:)

I have been using primarily Nikkor AIS MF lenses on the GH1 but have also shot with a few others.... Here are my impressions regarding some of these lenses on the GH1.

Nikkor 20mm f2.8 AIS (very good colour + contrast...works OK wide open and pretty good from f4.0 onwards. CA is an issue in some shots)

Nikkor 28mm f2.8 AIS (superb colour + contrast + bokeh...works well wide open...AMAZING close foucus capabilities of 0.2m gives it a macro-wide sort of feel. Good flare control.)

Nikkor 35mm f1.4 AIS (much like the 28mm in terms of IQ but only really useable from f2.8 onwards - f2.0 is marginal due to coma and CA. Good flare control.)

Nikkor 50mm f1.4 AIS (pretty decent IQ from f2.8 onwards with sharp, contrasty images but wide open it isn't too flash - f2.0 is marginal due to coma and CA...flares a bit also.)

Nikkor 135mm f2.8 AIS (lacks punch with colour + contrast @ f2.8... IQ improves from f4.0 onwards....good @ f5.6. Flares/ghosts can be an issue)

Nikkor 18mm-35mm f3.5-4.5 D (superb colour + contrast + sharpness..best to use from f8.0 onwards...excellent with 77mm polariser - no vignetting. MF not the best. Good flare control)

Nikkor 28mm-105mm f3.5-4.5 D (good colour + contrast + sharpness..best to use from f8.0 onwards...decent semi macro capabilities with a 0.5:1 RR. MF not the best. Good flare control)

Samyang 8mm f3.5 Fisheye (bit soft wide open...IQ improves from f5.6 onwards - fun lens to use with huge DOF...Interesting magenta lens flares with this lens under artificial light)

Tokina 80-400mm ATX "D" version....a bit soft at 400mm and f5.6...IQ improves at f8.0 onwards...best to use between 80-300mm)

Olympus 17mm f2.8 pancake lens (dont use it too much...HATE MF with this lens as it has a perpetual focus ring....IQ is pretty good. I sometimes use it with a WA converter on the front to get a 12mm f2.8 equivalent lens...corner softness and lens flare are an issue with the conveter but definitely useable)

Konica Hexanon 40mm f1.8 pancake...(had this lens for about 6 months and only just tried this lens the other day for the first time...sharpness and contrast seemed REALLY good...I was suprised at how well this lens rendered images...will be testing this one a bit more in future as it may be a gem.)

Kiron 80-200mm f4.5 macro F-mount (Good sharpness and close focus ability is also good. CA is the biggest issue with this lens...especially blown out backgrounds where it becomes very intrusive at the long end)

William Optics Zenithstar 66 APO doublet. (This is a 310mm f5 telescope with an f-mount. Excellent colour, contrast and sharpness. MF is fantastic with Crayford 2 speed focusser...but only useable on a tripod due to ergonomics)

The Nikkor AIS lenses are great to use for MF...except they focus to infinity the opposite way to other lenses, so if you havent used Nikkors before it can take a bit of getting used to.

I have some photos on Flickr with all these lenses but all shots are taken with Nikon DSLRs as I dont really use my GH1 much for stills. You can have a look at the link in my signature if you like to view for yourself....

Cheers ;-)

For my GH1(3) I am planning to buy the
Sigma Super Wide Angle 20mm f/1.8 EX Aspherical DG DF RF Autofocus Lens for Nikon AF-D

and the

Tokina 16-50mm f/2.8 AT-X 165 PRO DX Autofocus Lens for NIkon DX

Would these two lenses work with a Nikon to micro 4/3 adapter and what adaptor would you specifically suggest?

Thank you all. :)

Why not the panny 20mm f1.7?

As far as I know, currently-available adapters will only allow you to mount those lenses on the GH1. You will not be able to control aperture with any currently available adapter.

That I know of.

This is why older manual-focus lenses are so perfect for the GH1, especially Nikon-mount and Canon FD-mount lenses.

No this is incorrect - the Nikon adapters for "G" lenses let you control the aperture.
